Hull Value?

1993 28 Sport with single engine set up w/racing dash and finished cabin. Figure the whole drive train is bad.

Can anyone give me a estimated hull value? Seems to be in good shape.

Stormrider 03-24-2008 08:59 AM

10k

Dude! Sweet! 03-24-2008 11:12 AM

Is that with the trailer!? :D

Love Machine, do a search on that boat in the Pantera section. There's a lot of discussion about it. Not too much about the hull... I recall that it wasn't rigged by Pantera and it was raced. Consensus is the driveline is junk. Is the owner finally willing to part the boat out to get rid of it?

TexomaPowerboater 03-24-2008 01:15 PM

$15-20k

With NO powertrain???
Andy, is a pantera worth THAT much more than an apache?

Cuz i know of a few Braves that sold for 20s w/ power and were nice.

Pat McPherson 03-24-2008 02:16 PM

I would also think more like 20K. There were a couple of race setups that sold for that.
Storm,
You know if there had been a 28' Pantera single with a cabin for under 30K back a few months ago, I would have bought it.

Stormrider 03-24-2008 02:40 PM

Pat, u know the boat that the OP is talking about?
Cuz DS and I think its the same outta PA/MD.
And its not a desirable dash setup, nor conventional entrance to the cabin. And for most of us here, the owner was not budging on pricing.

I think the boat in MD a few threads lower is a much better buy... finished and ready to go w/ twins, asking 24900.

Power and drive alone are going to run $25000 for either a 496mag ho/B1, or Custom w/ B1.
So then at 45 you still got an oddball.
Then new dash, cockpit and rigging... another 15 in time and materials.
Unless you are a do-it-yourself'er, or like a project, there are better buys.
Plenty o'nice stuff out there for 45, let alone 60.

Stormrider 03-24-2008 02:49 PM

btw, here's the thread. good pics of the cockpit on page 4.
And that is the fugliest pantera dash i've seen. that ain't no stock racing dash.
http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/s...d.php?t=120217

Pat McPherson 03-24-2008 02:59 PM

Yes Storm, I agree with you on both counts.
That 93 single is nowhere near as nice as the normal full pleasure setup.
And the best deals out there on a 28' are for twin engine boats.

Actually Warpaint listed his w/o power for $20K and it was not in good shape

I only pd $25K for mine, but an OSO member offered me $40K two weeks later. Its hard to say what market is. Scott sold his 1981 28 pantera twin hull for $14ish.

I like the dash on the custom pantera in MD.

HA!!!!!!
I started a spreadsheet the weekend I got mine home to track spending.
That lasted about 2 weeks:D Decided to stop recording that stuff right away...
I'm into it for few K already, and I'm far from done.
That's one of the cool things about having a wife that's into it too.
She shops the internet, and as long as it's a good price for what it is, she buys it. And I'm talking about boat parts, not shoes.:cool-smiley-011:

tomcei 03-25-2008 08:27 PM

Hey, just think how cool a set of pumps would look on her feet when she's in her boat:evilb::D
(ops... I mean your boat) HA HA

Truth is, it's her boat.:D
I just think it's cool when she looks at me and says " I found this Gaffrig throttle/shifter and it's brand new, and only costs $xxx"
"I found a brand new mech. trim gauge, Gaffrig, red, matches the throttle/shifter, and it's only $xx, so I bought it - is that OK?"

Pumps on the boat??
No shoes on the boat.:D
Truth be told, I have an awesome wife that put's up with my addiction. Hell, she was giving Pepe hugs a few weeks ago when we were done there. She already told me if I want to get another boat, she's keeping this one for herself.
The new TS 28 is a certain candidate - hottest thing I've seen in a long time.

You guys were correct. I've been looking at that 28 in MD that is in Boat Trader. I'm going to pass on this one for several reasons (some being listed above). However, not to say it wouldn't be a good project boat for someone. The woman selling it now wants $18K As Is. I offered her much lower and drive it away right then no questions asked, but I guess she wants to recoup money she's sank into it. The XZ drive is blown. The transom assembly looks ok. The keel is scraped up and probably because of the trailer. The trailer needs work. It's been sitting since July, supposedly it was winterized. So, maybe if you wait another year the price will half again. :D

I still want a Pantera, but under $30K. It must have a single engine and I'm now opening it up to 24s. Let me know if you see anything come available.

duunoit 03-26-2008 07:20 PM

$18k?

I've got more than that in my boat (1986) that I bought as a stripped hull and trailer... and wouldn't let it go for near that. You know it needs a drive. It may need a motor. The transom assembly and hydraulic steering is more than likely in good working order. What is a used XR drive, $4500?

Stormrider 03-27-2008 08:29 AM

I thought the whole drivetrain was bad? engine too.
IMO, everytime i'd jump in the boat my stomach would turn looking at that dash. sonicboom was a far better buy at $10k more.

For $18K, I would have boughten it last year. IMO thats a steal.

Dude! Sweet! 03-27-2008 01:00 PM

I was under the impression that the motor was "assumed" to be bad because no one had ever heard it run (it's been "recently winterized" for like 2 years). So, I guess you assume that you're getting a good block, heads, blower cases, etc...

Dude! Sweet! 03-27-2008 01:15 PM

One thing people also don't think about is the cost to ship the boat to you... For LM, you're looking at an additional $2,500 - $4,000 discount on that boat because it's close by.

LOL, if you moved to florida, most boats would have that discount. :D
It's funny you see it as a discount, being close, as opposed to a liability of it being far. :cool-smiley-027:

It's questionable it would have made the 6 mile tow to my house!! :evilb: Looking at all the stainless hardware on the stern, it was all rusty. The boat was still shrink wrapped and I couldn't look inside. I didn't want to wait a couple weeks for the weather to get warmer to see inside. I don't think I would have liked it anyway. My wife put in the clincher. She doesn't want to have to climb on her hands and knees and roll to get access to that cabin. I just get an overall negative vibe. I don't want surprises later. I like buying boats from folks who love them and are anal about them. There was no anal love here!

:D

PS - I have another deal brewing. I think you'll approve once I seal the deal this weekend.

Dude! Sweet! 03-27-2008 04:26 PM

Sounds like that boat had plenty of anal love, but very little of it was consentual! :D

Rob, I gotta deal with the facts at hand! I'm not allowed to move to FLA (wife, not court order!) so close boats are an advantage! Then again, if I wanted a jet boat, I'm in heaven out here!

Quite a bit about this boat .... I looked at it before the Shogren deal.

MikeFormula 03-31-2008 11:34 AM

This 28 has been brought up quite a few times in the last year or 2 and I see that now the price is down to 18k! I still think that's it's too much for that boat. If you like the dash lay-up on the boat that's cool, but I personally didn't like it at all. I don't think that Pantera rigged the boat either so there are allot of questions here that are unanswered. The motor has been sitting for a long time so I would think that it would at the least need to be freshened up or rebuilt. The other problem with the boat is apparently it eats drives like crazy. I never got an answer as to why it would do this. Unless someone got a truly smoking deal I would stay away unless someone had big pockets or was just very attached to this boat.

Mike
