At a pit stop I checked all the wheel hubs. One of them lost it's bearing buddy. So, I did a little red neck engineering. You gotta love duck tape and zip ties. The zerk was still there. So, I greased it up covered it with duck tape and used to zip tie to keep it from coming off. Worked like a champ and didn't leak for 200 miles! Will this pass trailer inspection??:cool-smiley-027:

Congrats on getting the boat & heading home , It really looks good !!
We had to do the same thing on one of our flats boat trailers on our way down to FL last time..... I thought only us southern boys knew how to properly use duct tape or "alabama chrome"..... Man when that happened to us all I could think was that I hope nobody meet that bearing buddy with a car or motorcycle when it came off...:( |
Great looking rig! Always good to have some duct tape on hand!
|
Congrats on getting her home!!!
|
You had a chance to take her for a spin yet? I hope it turns out to be a great boat for you! I looked at the boat a couple years ago when the guy in Newport had it and was asking $40k...
|
I took her out Saturday for a few rides. Man, it's a great ride. I can't wait to get her in some rough stuff!

The boat is at Jaws Marine to have the engines gone over. It was done on Saturday and I didn't hear anything from them. So, hopefully, no news is good news.

Need to do some trailer work too. Replaced one rear light and fixed one of the wheel wells. Now, I need to do some bunk work. Anyone know where I can get the bunk hardware and stainless staples? South Florida Trailer's website didn't have what I needed. Also, what's a good way to adjust the bunks to the hull?
|
Bill,
Check with Dave's boat trailers, on Crain Hwy. They should have everything you need. Joe |
Thanks Joe.
|
Boat's looking good! I always got a kick out of the P3 class race numbers on that boat! :D
|
I want to take those race numbers off, but my wife says it looks cool.
I bought all the bunk hardware and 2X6 lumber for the bunks. Now, I just need the carpet. I have a question though. Should the guide bunks be taking any of the boat weight? I wouldn't think so, but right now they are and they are being rubbed pretty good. You can see that in the pics above. Can anyone with a 24 hull take a picture of their transom while it's on the trailer? I want to see where the boat is sitting. |

nice ride, must be a fun one to....

Talked to John (pwrbt33 on OSO) the head mechanic at Jaws Marine today. The engines are in good shape. Good leak down tests on engines and lower unit, reeds are good and the starboard power head was replaced (reman.) in 2006. New plugs, gear oil and water separators. I should be good to go.

I'll get ya a pic of mine tonight, but its a different bunk setup, I have Aluminum bunks on my trailer, the transom is even with the end of the bunks, my trailer also dosent have the center guide bunks.
|
I have mine set just inside the chines, or strakes, wutever ya call them things halfway up the v, I'll get ya a pic, but I have mine set pretty far in, I like the boat sitting higher on the trailer since I dont have the center support bunks.
|
Bill,
IMHO, I'd want a little weight on the guide bunks. Then you don't have to worry about them slapping the hull when the trailer flexes going over bumps. You can buy Stainless Staples at Lowes/Home Depot. You can also get your Indoor/Outdoor Carpet there too. Just buy the expensive stuff, and use a coat of glue in addition to the staples to keep the carpet from bunching and tearing upon launching/retrieval. You can buy a small tub, and it goes on with a wide putty knife. |
Thanks Brian. Yeah, I"m gunna buy the carpet at Homey and the glue is a good recommendation. I'll put the new guide bunks on with a little play. When I put the Pantera back on, I'll tighten them up. Maybe take a jack (with wood block) and jack up the boat maybe an inch before I cinch the bunks.
I miss that Myco trailer I had for that Sonic. It was built well. I don't think this trailer was made for the Pantera, but at least I can adjust it. By the way Brian, you married yet?:p:D |

Just brought the boat back from Jaws Marine. It's got a clean bill of health. Have a new purple cockpit cover from Atlantic Canvas and looks great.
I was heading into a SE wind going out of the Patapsco River and encountered three footers. Got the boat airborne and wouldn't you know it, my fat ass broke the seat bottom. Looks like I'll need to beef it up with 3/4 plywood! :boat::eek: |

Made my own bunks. Boat trailer supply for bolts, screws and brackets. Lowes for carpet, lumber and staple gun.

Oh Yeah. Here's the new cockpit cover.
|
I took the my wife, boy and friend to dinner last night and on the way back had to face 3-5 footers in the bay on the way back. On the port quarter (south winds 15-20 knots) :D I was airborne several times and it landed softly every time. Wow. My 19 month old fell asleep!
:cool-smiley-027: |
Safe and fun!! PANTERA!!!
|
Like I said, no better ride in a 24 footer, looking good.
|
Pics will come soon. Just wanted to say that Jaws Marine...
ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1:cool-smiley-027: Their service dept is top notch. It's headed up by John (pwrbt33 on this board). He goes the extra step. |
