So you can't get the systemview or use smartcarft with the 383?? What's the auto shut down?? I know nothing about either engine so any info is helpful.

Yes I have a 2007 that is a single and has been a great boat. I think you will like the twin small blocks but I would love to see you go for some Raylar aluminum small blocks, that would be a azz hander and might run past the century mark.
I here the 6.2's accelerate pretty well. Good luck and have fun!!!

2007 28 for sale best offer takes her.

I would do a lot of research on the 383. Its a remanufactured engine. I've heard good and bad just about the remanufactured part of it. Not sure if the smartcraft works on with the 383 or not. I do know that the 383 cost less than the 6.2 and IMO there is a good reason for it; I just don't know it off the top of my head. I think the difference in HP is only 20hp??????, not sure what the torque numbers are.

They have smartcraft viewing system for most all the new merc engines. The merc smart system electronically monitors the operating system of the engine. It constantly checks compression, fuel delivery, overheating, fuel pressure, oil pressure, and a bunch of other stuff I can't remember. Hopefully someone will chime in an ALL its advantages. Basically if the engine starts to experience any sort of possibly damaging mechanical failure it will automatically shut the engine down, or shut the engine down to "safe mode" and let you idle below 1500rpm to get you back to the dock, which in theory should protect the engine from completely blowing. Do your research, merc explains it alot better than me. I've got the smartsytem on my sea ray with 6.2. Its kicked in on numerous occasions - caught an anchor rope in the bravo 3 prop (counter rotating) and it shut itself down - no damage. Blew a fuse to the fuel pump - shut itself down - replaced the fuse and no damage.

Austin, do you have to go w/ merc?
would you consider mild custom power?

I think I would want closed cooled if it was going to be in salt water all the time. Doug

From what i understand, closed cooling is more important where water temps can be cold.
