Saw this on CL and figured I'd share. Sorry for the confusion. The boat is actually on the Great Lakes.
http://loz.craigslist.org/boa/1847811643.html 1992 Pantera Sport 28'. My boat has been loved and rubbed its entire life. It has never been slept in or even left in the water overnight. With only approx. 200hrs. on the hull and 40hrs. on the engines its sure to provide countless carefree years of boating. The engines were professionaly built by a repected shop and produce 675h.p. each. Build sheets are available. They idle perfectly, have great dockside manners and when its time to go the boat does not dissapoint. The boat has full hyd. steering which is a must when running at these speeds. TRS drives with nose cones and B.A.M. marine transmissions ensure reliable running. The upholstry shows very little wear and the gelcoat shines better than boats half its age. The cover in the pic is only 2 years old and the boat comes with 2 other cockpit covers and a full camper - bimini top that I've never used. This is a very nice boat! Will consider trades for larger express cruisers. Call 847-770-8268 with questions or offers |

Anyone else wondering why a 1992 has TRS Drives??:readinghelp:
I mean, they are for sure stronger than a Bravo, and the power probably doesnt warrant any more than a TRS, but I didnt know they still made TRS in 1992?? |
Made TRS until 1993. Great reliable drives!
|
That boat was originally from Traverse city, MI and was sold a few years ago to a guy in IL. Hasn't had much use in the last few years and looks damn clean for a 1992.
|
It does look good.

Can the TRS's handle hard-driving with that set-up? I know of 650hp Bulldogs that are eating TRS's, but they are in a much bigger boat. Just looking for knowledge here... not criticizing.

hey guys, im new to this site, and im trying to buy that boat, i have been out of the sport boat game for 22 years, and alot has changed in that time.....i currently have a Christ Craft 41 ft. commander, its a get great boat if you want to write a novel or something, i got it basicly so my ma and pops could go and injoy it to....but i cant do the 18 knots thing anymore.....now about this boat, i was questioning the TRS drives with that much HP, the boat looks great from the pics, what else do i need to look for....hes a nice guy to talk to, i taked to him last thursday, he said the boat topspeed is about 94mph on a cool day, and its only got 200hrs on the haul....i always love Pantera boats, and the more i read here the more i like them.....im ready to buy now.....i just got to get my wife packed up to go pick it up.....so do i need to look for, and if anyone knows anything about this boat please let me know...thanks joe....

oh by the way i never did ask him about the crazy plumbing on the exhaust, do any of you guys know why.....i am thing noise maybe.........
|
Those are turndowns, keeps the noise down at idle speeds.
|
Nothing wrong with TRS, except they MAY be hard to find parts for, or so I have heard. They will probably be borderline on that boat with that power, but you sound like you know what your doing, so just dont go to crazy on them. I wasnt aware they made them until '93, thought maybe they discontinued them when the Bravo came out. Boat should be solid, and from the sounds of it, has been a freshwater boat, maybe get a survey just to make sure the motor is tight, and the hull is dry.
|
Use your head on the sticks and you should be okay with that hp. Lots of singles out there in the 600-700hp range and you're splitting the load. And TRS are stronger than Bravos. If you're talking about the turndowns that Storm pointed out he is correct they put the exhaust underwater at idle to keep the boat quieter.
