Towing a Pantera

What is the average weight of a 28ft..... Twin and single Io.

The pantera site says for a new non SR with a singe is 5800 lbs.

And truck im thinking of has a 6600 towing capacity. The tow trips are going to be less than one hr usually. With maybe one or two 3 hr towing trips.

Truck will have plenty of HP but whats everyones ides on how the truck will do.

I towed the black 28 on a myco, 6200 lbs with a 1500 ram no problems, my trips were 400, and 500 miles, just make shure the truck has a tow package, if not you will need a oil cooler and a trans cooler

Call it 6000 if its a little older boat. Add 700 or fuel, 300 for all the crap you carry, 1500-2000 for the trailer and you are in the 8000-9000lb range. Can be done with a half ton if it is set up right, good hitch and good trailer brakes. Kind of at the max though, 3/4 ton would be better.

I thought the singles were estimated at 5200lbs???? Thats what I see on the Pantera site http://www.panteraboats.com/newboats.html
I never weighed my 1996, but I estimated it around 6500lbs on the aluminum trailer and maybe another 500lbs in fuel.

Single Pantera 5250+ Steel Myco Trailer 2800+ Fuel 600 = 8650

Jeff, I am still loving 'our ' boat pal.

SLP- I tow mine with my ram 1500 occasionally. I have a 2002model truck with the 5.9 gas motor I bought new. I have blown one transmission out of it. It doesnt really have enough HP. It sucks gas to the point that I have to constantly plan my fuel stops on my way north, especially at night when alot of stations might be closed.

Panteraman28 I believe had the newer ram with the HEMI which would have made about 100 more hp than my 2002 and may have had a different transmission.

I just got a 2000 dodge 3500 dually 5.9 cummins that we retired from the company. I am in the process of fixing some minor rust, painting it black and decaling it out to be a hauler just for the boat. It doesnt have the creature comforts but the stability, braking and power more than make up for the lack of leather, cd, etc.

I will never buy another 1500 truck again, for what it is worth.

My next truck will be a heavy duty and most likely a 4x4 dually in anticipation of the next boat I intend to buy in a couple of years. :evilb:

It was a 360, tweeked, and the myco on the trailer ticket stated 1500lbs, the boat weighed 4500lbs, no cabin race set up, 90gal fuel tank, try headers, cold air intake , I would get 16 to 17 mph with my ram , got the hemmi ram later. I had 70,000 miles of boat pulling.
