twin OB
So I know the 24 Superboat & 24 Pantera are almost identical 24x7 . Some sb guys think that the boats were not made for twins. Do you guys have any thoughts on the topic?

Theres one for sale in the Keys right now.
|
the 24 in buffalo has a single on it and goes great.. i bet twins would be a blast!!!
more power the better |
4 sale in buffalo?
where is there a 24 in buffalo for sale? If you could get a link that would be great.

I haven't read one thread on here where they got a twin 24 pantera running right.
Doesn't mean it can't be done, I just haven't heard anyone boasting about it. And my $0.02 is that when someone gets their boat dialed in right, they're talking about it. |
And I too have read the same things you have about the 24SB.
But on screamandfly, there is a 23howard that is running RIGHT. That one is on LI, NY. Also, the 25PP's seem to do well w/ the twin OB setups. |
No The Twin Is In The Keys!! I Was Just Saying The 24 Single In Buffalo Runs Great. Doubt Its For Sale. But A Sweet Boat

I dont think this boat was make for a twin or single OB. I love the look of the extended cockpit and engines hanging off the back but no good way to control the boat with that much weight off the A$$ |
If you are talking about the all white 24 single with red interior in buffalo it is not for sale. It is a friend of mines neighbour, the boat stays in crystal beach

Can't see any reason why it shouldn't work??
My 24' Sonic runs 80 w/twin stock 250 JohnRudes and is a hoot to drive. It is set up properly though and a much bigger and wider hull. W/the narrow beam I can see some of the issues though. It will set and ride lower in the water and the center of gravity would be farther aft than on my Sonic and that is always an issue on smaller V's w/twin O/B's. The one in the Keys has been for sale a while. I'm hoping to be down there in the next wk and may try and take a look. The 25 PP's haul ass w/twins as well. Was one of them for sale down there for better part of a yr but was beat hard and showed it. I'd guess you move the batteries to the bow, jack the motors to the moon and you may be there. I had a 17' Hydrostream that tried to kill me when rigged like everyone elses. Was fine to about 90 and then would try to blow over w/no warning. Moved the battery from the stern to the bow and the boat would then run a 100 w/no hands on the wheel! Twins on that small and skinny of a boat would clearly be a drivers boat and not for the faint of heart or an owner that doesn't want to earn it/work for it. The ski racers in Australia have similar rigs, 2' shorter, way more power and running well over 100. Someone just needs to do it ;) |

Seems that pantera already did..90mph..seems like they got it right to me.. |
From that other thread, but I still prefer a single.
It really boils down to customer preferanceon this one. The twin outboard set up when mounted on a short aluminum bracket allows adjustment of engine height up or down several inches. We balance the boat a bit diffrently with outboards than with an I/O and set up our engine room stringers higher giving added support to the transom. You also have counter rotating props ( left and right ) but added drag by having an extra motor and prop in the water compared to a single. The bracket setback normally in the 18-20 inch range will allow us to mount the motors higher and get cleaner water to the props with less drag. Kind of like having a notched transom on the hull. Like I said on my last post to you this set up is popular for salt water boaters to trim the motors out of the water if docked overnight. The single 500 EFI will have a lower center of gravity but a fixed drive height when installed. After so many 24s built we know optimum drive height performance.I can honestly say that the 500 EFI is a great reliable package after running it in Factory class racing last year and putting it in major punishment over 12 races at wide open throttle for over 1 hour at times. The outboard model with the extended cockpit allows us to extend the fuel capacity on the 24 to over 100 gallons of fuel. You got to remember also with a 500 EFI Merc. you will run 5300 RPM at WOT and a 225 Pro Max will be in the 6700 - 6800 RPM range at WOT. The outboards will be more sensetive to throttling in rough water due to the increase in rpm and prop shaft durability (especially with 4 blades). I think it boils down to what is easier for you to maintain and the area you will be boating at.Security of an extra motor for long trips is something to think about. Speed and acceleration is pretty close. If I can answer any more questions let me know. Regards, JO |
