Pantera 24' HP - Coast Guard Capacity plate
 

Question – I am trying to figure out what is the maximum HP for a 24’ Pantera I/O (2005 – 2007) as determined by the Coast Guard Capacity plate. Does the CG rate these type boats or are they different from typical runable boats?

Over 20', they are not required to carry sticker with max. hp rating.

I have a follow up question. Is there a formula to calculate the maximum HP rating by law (I assume determined by the Coast Guard)? I thought it had to do with a formula that had variables such as the length, width, height.

I have noticed a lot of 24’Pantera’s with around 500 HP online...so I am assuming that may be around the max for that make boat.

Heres what my uscg plate reads....

Max capacity; 6 people or 1600 lbs combined persons / load
Max recomended hp; the more the merrier

The Hp really doesn't mater . What do you think the CG has a Dyno on board with them ? If you have 1000hp and they look at it and you tell them its 420hp do you think they will know ?
Besides if you have enough HP you don't have to worry about the CG anyway . They want me they better find what beach I'm gonna be hanging out on .............

There is no actual formula as there are some well known catamaran builders whose boats weigh very, very little and run safely at a power level then that of some other manufacturers heavier larger boats which could be considered unsafe with that amount of power. If a boat has the majority of it's weight in cabin amenities and the hull and structure, stringers are paper thin then there is no way to possibly quantify and compare HP ratings to a well designed, well built boat like a Pantera, Cigarette, Skater, etc...

Go buy a 24. Put 800 horse in it find a 2 foot chop and take your wife for a ride. And ask her if she feels safe in it lol

Isn't that one of the advantages of the Pantera, no HP limits set by the manufacturer, and no effect on the hull warranty?

Panteras are extremely solid, and my guess is the boat will survive better than the driver and passengers.
