small or big block in 24

I think a small block would do great.. if it makes enough power.

IMO a 450hp 383 would be sweet in a 24.
That would be an easy build and not too tempermental.

I think his was a Ford with a Volvo drive also

His 28 had twin 383's with Alpha SS

Now he is building a 24(carrera though) with weedwacker power(STR 300), I gotta give him a call soon, gotta keep him motivated

Yes, you are right on both counts.
His old 28 now has some serious sbc's in her now, along w B1s now, afaik.
