small or big block in 24

Wondering if anyone has put a sbc in a 24 pantera? What would be the pros and cons of each setup?

Pretty sure it'll be the same generic answer....

Sbc less weight. Which may give it a better balance

Bbc ez to make big power, but a lil heavier

Same ol same ol

What do you have for a drive? I would say BIg Block More Power is always better

anyone using gm LS powerplants in boats?? they are making some big power out of big cube small blocks these days. all aluminum ultra light too. 600hp 454ci small block would be a blast i would think

I would love a lsx powered boat. Maybe people stay clear of due to the ecm and tuning? I could also see a problem with exhaust

I've got a 1000hp procharged sbc , I've always wondered how it would do in my Pantera . 250 lbs less weight but The old rule in speed and performance is there's no replacement for displacement . The P29 Scarabs that had small blocks in them run the same speeds as the big block versions .
My next build is going to be a 28 Pantera with a single Duramax in it with a big single stack straight up through the hatch

I wonder how a 383 stroker 450+hp/450+tq would perform? should be a couple hundred lbs lighter. would this balance the boat better?

Angel had an sbc in his 24 and loved it!
You might want to reach out to him for some real world experience.

IMO a 450hp 383 would be sweet in a 24.
That would be an easy build and not too tempermental.

horsepower is great but TORQUE is where it's at!

look at the dyno numbers on small block engines and you will see that they make their power much farther up the rpm range than the big blocks. great for race cars where you can gear them for the high rpm range they like but who wants to cruise at 4500 rpm?

i'm going to repower my 24 with a nice conservative 500 inch bbc and make gobs of mid range torque with manageable maintanence and cost.

i've thought about a 454cu small block chevy but the build cost is greater and i don't want to have to wind it to the moon to make power.
