Pantera 28' with large windshield
Question for you Pantera guys. I am thinking about getting an offshore boat and the only reason I might not go Pantera is because I need a large windshield on my boat (due to health conditions). Something along the lines of the widnshield on a Formula 38' FastTech.
How do you think it would look? Are there any Pantera's that have such a windshield present? If I went with such a windshield is rounded better or one that is squared off. OWUld the factory work with me? Thanks. |
u could call Jo and ask him, the only tall windshield I ever seen was the pic of the fully enclosed boat that Pepe did along time ago. I would keep in mind boat builders with tall windshields probably put some thought into stepping around it to make it convenient and safer. JAime

I was thinking the same as jamie. If you do go this route. should look into a bowrider style windshield so you can hinge the mid section of the glass to have bow access.
|
Probably would be a ton of effort, $$$ and wouldn't look that good.
If you need a big windshield I'd look at boats that come with them - like the formulas, baja islanders, checkmates, etc. there are a ton of them out there. |
There might be some wind delfectors that would work on a 28. Would be much easier and look much better. I run them on my 24 and they work great.
|
there were some from a top gun in the swap shop. my flaps are alot smalller than the ones on my last boat. they still work decent but better than nothing for sure

I do not think there is anyway to block the wind sufficiently on a 28 without totally destroying the lines of the boat. To completely block the wind, something would need to be at least 12" high if you are sitting and 24"+ if you are standing.
Here is a pic for reference. I am sitting and my freind is standing in the passenger bolster. We are both about 5'10". |
Motorcycle helmet.

if you make the boat a sit down boat with short bolsters and add a winscreen it may work,, stand up,, no way.. my 27 Carrera is about as short and only way to get out of wind is to crouch down in seat and I have a 12" deflector on to of my normal winscreen.

Shape of the fairing would make a full shield pretty difficult/funny looking I would think.

In his defense he didn't mention Apache this time! LOL
And for once he actually has a valid point. :party-smiley-004: I guess if you had to make a windscreen on a 28 Pantera I'd scrap the fairing and add two quarter canopies. It would also have to be a sit down. I'd kind of like to see that...... |
Sunsation can build a 28 with a windshield. Rare but you can find a used Sunny with one.

Looks like that pic was taken from the infamous "Patriot Games". I'm guessing Von Bongo was still the owner at that point in time.

We can do a custom windshield on a new 28' instead of the solid fiberglass fairing and with the lowered footwells it does make a big difference when you drop down into them. We can even lower the entire cockpit floor.
If not the enclosed canopy mold is still here put away. JO |
so if you lowered the floor that would technically raise the free board!!!!!!!!!! problem solved :lolhit:

I was on 41 ft APACHE 'race' boat doing mid 80s.
I was up to my armpits in bolsters. Never been deeper in a boat. Lots of wind in my face and couldn't see w/o glasses. It would be easier to a bimini w/ full enclosure and lose a 'few' mph.:helmet: |
