28 Pantera Sighting

Spotted this bad boy at the ramp today.
I ran over and tried to talk to the guy and he sped away. Almost like he was afraid? Maybe he was on something :bong: |
Tom why are you running from your fans ? Got caught testing didn't you ? Thats funny !
Next time you have to block them in with your truck ... |
Awesome looking hatch, did you sell the original one? Might there be an original sunpad too? Funny that now yours is together and mine is all apart ha ha Looks great Tom
|
Sorry Tom, couldn't help it. Very sweet boat and set up!
:drool1: The only problem we encountered was calm water.... |
Still working on a few bugs. water pressure, idle adjustment,a couple of drips here and there. So far it's going well.
Chris, I still have the original flat hatch. It has a hole cut in the center ( I still have the cut out) and I have a scoop I was going to mount up. Never had a sun pad though. |
Looks like you are running the drive really deep? Is that a 2" spacer on the SCX?
How much prop are you turning? |

How much prop are you turning? I'm anticipating a five blade and 1" spacer but who knows. |

That is correct. 2". I wanted to start off exactly where the last prop shaft was before I made any changes. I thru on a 32 bravo to ride around with until I addressed the bugs.

That makes sense. I wondered how you would turn a 32 with 1.34 gears. :)

Looks good Tom. The hatch turned out nice mounted on the boat. I am going to see my vinyl guy tomorrow and get the new oval Pantera logos taken care of for you.
JO |

No unfortantly not, i havent had enough seat time this year, in April we had our first child. A wonderful little girl. I have had mine out only twice this year so far. I would like to get together at sunset cove and check out your boat. PM me so we can swap info. I run out of Port Royale, I keep it dry stacked there. HOA doesnt like the boat parked in the driveway. I dont know why. LOL... Enjoy the run I am tryn to get out there Sunday to check out some of the riggs. Again Sharp Pantera.

that thing sounded pretty healthy... im guessing low-mid 80's. the american flag ran mid 80's with 850 hp before he splattered it. c mon dont hold back we all wanna know!!
|
Myattitude, saw your boat last weekend at sunset. Looks great.
No seat time required for the poker run. Go as slow or as fast as you are comfortable. It's just great to be out there with all the serious hardware coming in. I count on being in the back with this crowd. |

As far as numbers i don't have anything yet. Tonight I found my steering rams leaking and pulled them off. I did have some tuning time with the idle and in gear low speed circuit adjustment. The docks and trailers were giving me fits. It's sweet now. I just fixed the water pressure and have it where I want it. I have 6 hrs on the mtr and drive so I'm ready to let it rip. Once my rams get fixed I will confirm my water temp on the chiller under boost and if good then I will spill some beans on the performance. It ran right at 80 with the last mtr. this one will do that fo sho |
Pantera, thank u. I try to keep it clean. Long story behind the boat. Next time you see me come on over. We can shot the sh$t for a bit.
Tom, I was thinking of havn my brother and dad fly in to do it. My dad used to be very active with the oshkosh boat club and the apba when it came to Oshkosh for the shake the lake races back in the 90s. I have done a couple runs back in the day. I got out of boating when I moved to Atlanta. Now I am starting to back in the water. Greg |

Will do buddy, I may even have to make a special trip down one day to take a good tour or your's & too tall jone's ride all at once.. I still occasionally see light at the end of the tunnel on mine and despite some of the b.s that goes on from time to time on the wonderfull world of oso, and as much as I love boating as it's always been a big part of my life, I gotta say that the people I've meet along the journey & stories like yours are what keeps me looking towards mine, and hanging in there for the ride..

The boat lost 10 mph (72mph). With a Bravo the boat always ran right around 80 mph (800 hp). This year, I pulled the SCX lower off and bolted an XR Lower on it and the boat magically picked up 11mph. The 1 extra mph was the fresh engine matched to a better camshaft. Point being, he lost 10 mph with the SCX and 2" lower. We're not sure where to go with the project at this point. Either put a 2" spacer on with the SCX, Put an SC lower on it or, put an XR Lower on it. |
Well,..... I knew that I would loose speed with the SCX for sure. My objective was to build a reliable quick boat vs. a fast boat. I prefer handling ruff water with excellent throttle response over flat out speed. I also didn't want to worry about a weak link and blow out a drive. That being said, I have great acceleration with marginal speed. I run a tick over 80 @ 5k. She gets there quickly using a 5 blade 30 pitch maximus. I had the prop worked to tweak the handling and that turned out great. I believe I have many mph left on the table for sure. I haven't done much with it because most of my running is with my kids and we average 50-60 mph running around. It is a blast to push the stick forward and snap to 80. So much so that I really don't have a huge desire to focus on the top speed. I spoke with a few of the guys that use to be on the board about their set ups. 1000 hp in the Mig and 1000 hp in b -stubs old boat. Those guys were running the xr stlye drives and were doing mid 90's ,mph. with props raised up high. Loose = fast. Their slips were very high so they ran 6 blade props. The mig was a really light lay up and Bstubbs was a full pleasure. Both boats had notched transoms. I'm not into dancing around loose and fast in ruff water with my kids, too risky. ( maybe alone). I do love big air and ruff water just not running on the ragged edge of....lol
I'll give you a ring today and go over some details. If I found a deal on an xr or sc lower I would try it but after almost 12 years of a Pantera love affair I'm am getting a wandering eye. |
Thanks. Look forward to chatting.
