28 twin starter motor removal question

Need to pull the starter off the port engine on my 28 twin big block. I am thinking I may (hopefully) be able to reach it if I pull the manifold and riser off on the starter sided. Is this possible or do I have to hoist the engine up?

I'd pull both inner exhaust manifolds. should have plenty of room then. May sound like alot of work but will be faster in the end. Plus you'll be able to walk the next day.

+1, might also be able to pull just the port inner side elbow and engine hatch so you can come at it from the stern..........but you need a swim platform to work off of.

I pulled my motor and rebuilt saltwater pump the same time.

Thanks for the help. Pulled the exhaust on the port engine and the starter was very easy to remove. Took a little less than an hour but boy does my back hurt. Found a busted nose cone on my MES mini starter. Not sure how this happen. I will be calling them in the morning.
