Yup,

Had one in a 19' Searay cuddy, 3.7 litre Merc block with 460 Ford head, powerful little thing.

Not sure if y'all realize this, the Merc 470 is a 4 cylinder, so of course you could fit twins in a 24.

Nope... didn't know that.:lolhit:

About the Mercury Marine 470 / 3.7 Liter

The Mercury Marine 470 (224 CI in-line 4 cyl) was first introduced in 1976.
It was a powerful (170hp) 4 cylinder which was a popular alternative to the
old 160 and 165 in-line 6 cylinder.

The 470 uses an aluminum block which was designed and manufactured
by Mercury Marine. The iron head was from a Ford 460 V8 engine.

The 470 block was also used in the 170, 165 (3.7 Liter),
485 (4 barrel), 488 (4 barrel), 190 (4 barrel), and the 180 (3.7LX with 4 barrel).

All of the 470 and 3.7L versions used closed cooling systems.

noisy little motor, especially with twins. and you can't buy a replacement block in the boneyard...

IRONMAN 08-23-2012 08:06 AM

There is a picture somewhere of a 24 with twin 260 I/O's I just cannot find it. Talk about sitting low in the stern. Some Avanti 27's also had twin small blocks also in a 7' beam boat It was challenging enough to work on a cig 28ss with twins so I can't imagine how you would get to the stb block mounted oil filter or the port starter in that setup.

my 8'2" beam Nova III has an inch between manifolds. you take off the exhaust to do anything beyond plugs...31.5 inch engine centers.
