Surface drive on 24?

Has anyone ever run a surface drive on a 24? I know of a pair forsale i can buy cheap. Just didnt know how the set up would be on my 24. Any info would be great! Thanks

sparky24 09-30-2012 09:39 AM

I heard that it causes the boat to lean over to one side on such a small hull

Why don't you put the pair of surface drives on a full staggered smallblock set-up! If it works, I'd like to take a ride and copy what you've done! What a rush that would be!

scarab63 09-30-2012 10:21 AM

Closest thing I've seen is a 26 sunsation ??? In swap shop with surface drive.
Can prob still find it with a little search. It was listed within the past 6 months

OCCJoe 09-30-2012 11:24 AM

Its been done ! I'm doing it on my 24 and there has been 18 and 22 Donzi's with them . They are all over the place !
If I hadn't already bought mine I would be all over this boat http://miami.craigslist.org/pbc/boa/3278151884.html . Pick that baby up and you have everything you need to complete the setup . And look at the boat , their using static tabs .. If your using one off a pair , use the left hand so it counter acts the torque of the motor .

bought a 30ft formula with twins! And k planes!! 1,000 bucks pick it up tomorrow. everything is there minus one tranny. pumps steering etc is all there. Just not sure of the x dimension.

krisx125 09-30-2012 11:43 AM

Hell NO ! Rock on ! All you'll need is a trolling motor you can put on and take off easily so you can get the boat up to the dock because with a single Kaama you can hang up any lateral movement .

krisx125 09-30-2012 12:10 PM

haha! That bad huh? The current up here is awful

OCCJoe 09-30-2012 12:19 PM

Your other option is to go to a rodeo school and learn how to lasso really good .

mikebrls 09-30-2012 01:03 PM

WIESMAN make's a surface drive with a duro prop that would be awesome for a single engine boat .
" it will take away the lean "

mike

krisx125 09-30-2012 01:47 PM

hmm, wish i could get some more info on these. Id hate to go through all the work and hate it.

OCCJoe 09-30-2012 01:57 PM

The Weismann is 30K and there are NO used ones on the market can't tell you how I know this but trust me ... Does that help you make you mind up ?

JETTDOGG 09-30-2012 02:01 PM

Is that the old blue formula that was on c/l in mass a while ago -had a name on it but cant remember it

krisx125 09-30-2012 02:07 PM

Nope. A friend of mine had this hull and wanted to scrap it. So i told him i'll gladly take it!
Its pouring here buy i managed to snap a few pics. the paint is almost totally gone off them, but they're in pretty decent shape. A little sand blasting and powder coat they'd look great. The boots seem to be in ok. What are these things worth?

Those drives would be awesome on our Sutphen. Maybe a pair will turn up one day.

krisx125 I was talking to Jo and he told me his dad had built a 24 with a Kaama on it when he was little . He couldn't remember much about it but you know Pepe loves to talk and maybe if you can get him on the phone he might be able to talk setup with you .

Sweet! i'll have to call them this week. Im totally pumped about this. Just the fact that you dont see many surface drives around where i am. And I sent a few pictures to my buddys and they all had no clue what they were LOL! Cant wait to go screaming by the beach next year with a massive rooster tail. Im freshening up a worked 420 i had. My machinest swears its around 450-475hp. Any idea what speed I would see?

OCCJoe 09-30-2012 07:36 PM

Thats a little low on the Hp for a surface drive but you should be in the 75-80 range and I would think the roster would fly from start to finish

Its not that Bad. I have no issues maneuvering my Kaama boat around the dock. it will take some getting use to however.
