Enough room for a Borg Trans?

I have a 330 TRS with a Merctrans II in my 1980 24 Sport. Is there enough room between the transom and the liner/firewall to move the motor ahead so I can switch to a Borg Warner trany? Has anyone done this, and what handling charisteristics change with the weight distribution change?
Pepe or Jo?

the borg warner will move your motor 6 inches forward

I'm concerned that the horsepower I want to throw at it, will burn up the merctrans.

Right around 550hp. Anything above that I would start to worry about the TRS.

OCCJoe 02-20-2013 06:58 PM

There's people that have run 700-1000hp through TRS's without failure , I had 565hp in it's stock configuration without failure .
