This is the only picture i have of my bilge. It was from before i bought it. Its much cleaner now lol.

Mine are on the shelf behind the bulkhead. Above fuel tank. Not sure if you bilge is the same up there?

Get some 1/4 aluminum plate and weld it to an optima box . Then bolt them to the stringer as close to the back of the seat as possible . Make sure their on the outside of the stringers that way their not taking up space in front of the Motor. Make sure to use transom washers to make it nice and clean

krisx125 03-12-2013 05:22 PM

But doesnt the weight of the battery put huge stress on the stringers?

Port Monster 03-12-2013 05:36 PM

The motor sits on the stringer - the batteries are nothing! Not the same boat but mine are in the floor hatch. Don't have to worry about the hatch not opening and easier access than leaning over the back of the seat!

I know the motor sits on the stringers....But the outside of the battery wont be sitting on anything...What happens when they bounce?

If you can picture the battery on the outside of the stringer and the aluminum plate about 8" down the stringer it would give you room for 4 bolts

The battery has to be fully supported. Be it with the tray or with the tray and wood fiberglassed across the stringer to the side.

Room enough to put under rear seat. Sacrifices some storage, but cleans up bilge. Plus if u use a electric hatch you can easily access the batteries if they run down.

I'm your friend ! Break that chainsaw out and make me a place to sit dammit ..

tomas_wallin 03-13-2013 11:22 AM

I put my battery in front of the motor. I built a shelf that sits maybe 4" up from the V that I glassed to the bottom and the bulkhead. I then fastened the battery box to the shelf and the bulkhead.

Doesn't take up any space, it's centered and down low.

Going the cheap route...Gotta router the edges, glass and gel coat.

Newbanana, I like what you did. But i dont have the room under my rear seat. So they'd be too close to the front of my engine.

The outside of the battery box sits on the bottom of the hull.

paul buckner 03-15-2013 09:32 AM

Mine had nothing but fresh air under them they where bolted to the stringer with 4 bolts and penny washers but too high up the stringer for the tray to sit on anything . Redone the trays and the outside of the trays now sits on rubber pads .

NewBanana 03-15-2013 04:10 PM

They also sell some stringer monted boxes a bit pricey but hassle free i guess.. id go your route better.

If you ever take on water its not great to have your battery sitting too low, the stock type mounts are probably fine but i wouldnt put it at the bottom of the bilge

krisx125 03-20-2013 06:03 PM

I screwed a block of wood to the stringers and resin coated it. Set the plywood down in cavasil and screwed it to the block of wood. Then did a coat of glass. Presto Battery supports lol

Just put mine in today, some foam wrapped up and good to go. I picked up the foam pieces at a local shop that they were getting rid of pieces and were just big enough

krisx125 04-04-2013 08:51 PM

Nice work! Looks good. I wanted mine up where yours are, But i decided that i rather have some more weight forward. And took the easy route out lol

zavier24 04-04-2013 10:56 PM

I was debating on putting them where you have them for that same reason but I said screw it, thought they would be in the way up there for or I was just used to have them in the back already

Then just mount the shelf higher to make room for two batteries ;)
