24 ride with a big block
As some of you know I have been throwing around the idea of putting a BBC in my 24 that currently has a SBC in it. Thing is I love the ride with the lighter weight SBC and it does not porpoise at any speed.
Looking to see if the 24 with a big block has any issues with porpoising? Can any of you BBC/24 footers chime in please? |

'78 24' 454/TRS, I had 5 adults and a child once and at cruise it would porpoise till I slightly tabbed down. Easily fixed and never did it with 4 adults.

1979 24 Sport with 427 tall deck bored & stroked to 496.
Bravo one, Dana 1100 Tabs. Great ride and too much fun :) |
1995 21ft superboat 509 bbc, bravo 1 drive. Tabs. I run a Bravo 28p labbed prop. Mid 80's all day long. It is very very trim sensative. I also run a Mirage 27 non plus labbed prop. Not as tame as the Bravo 28p. No chine walk at all. I say go for it. The acceleration is amazing. One burst from 30mph to 70mph, and you will wished you did it sooner

I had a '91 with a 454 mag/bravo one. great ride. great power. great jumper. no porpoise.

alum heads and exhausts on the bbc and you are only a lil heavier than the 350 anyway. but that alpha has gotta go unless you are gonna drive it like it's a bayliner...

I have a fresh built 489 stroker that would be nice for your 24. the motor made 525 hp and 582tq on dyno, all forged internals with custom hyd roller from comp cams.
