24 SE props size and pitch

Hi, i have just rebuilt a 24 SE 1979 as a restoration . it has a brand new short block and is about 300-320hp but i am sat (full tank) at 4800 and 38 knots.
i should be up at 5300 for that engine but im not near the boat at the moment as it is in mallorca spain.
anyone got any ideas what prop i should be running as a best guess. it has a volvo leg on it but i have bought a modification kit to take mercury props.
i am able to borrow props but i wanted to have one ready for when i am there next to try it.
i havent a clue what an old boat like that would make flat out anyway.
it is cute though and very rare for there
anyone help a lost brit with ideas please
russell

Not enough info on set. BB or SB? What Volvo. Gear ratio? What pitch and type of prop on it now.

I think the ratio is 1.61:1

BB is big block and SB is small block. Your horsepower and drive combo sounds like it is a small block boat. There is a guy on here running a 5.7 small block with an alpha right around 50mph. His name on here is DJMike or something like that. Once you figure out your drive ratio you might be able to see what pitch and drive ratio he is running to give you an idea where to start.

Yes that is his name. Do you have any pictures of your boat or the engine?
