I partially have Jerry Memoli to blame for my want to race boats. We got to talking since he owned my 28 and raced it back in the day and would send me pictures and videos of race boats so i got the itch lol. Only seemed right to have him build the powerplant for the 24! https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...57027e8ed.jpeg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...e6e0fcb3e.jpeg |

We measured the x several different ways. Straight edge, plumb bob, etc this was actually the easiest and best way we came up with due to the delta pad on the bottom and the trailer. We knew the pad was 1” higher than the keel so i taped string along the keel set it at 1” down, then marked 16.5 on the plumb bob, and made our intersection mark. When measuring for the X never measure off the sides of the boat. We measured straight up off the strakes to get out center lines. Then once we found our x we measured diagonal from strake to center to make sure we were dead on. Alot of measuring and planning goes into this and it helps to talk to so many people who have done this in the past! https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...a98624eb2.jpeg Big thanks the Jerry for sending the template up. Had full plans of taking it to tc marine so he could cut it but couldnt afford to lose any time of working on it and toms in busy season so we tackled it. https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...7502183ca.jpeg Doug drilling the 9/16 holes. Little tip we did not want to crank down on the center bolt because ive seen a ton of people crack these plates. We took some 3/4 cut to size of the template and screwed it in the middle so the template cant walk if drill bit catches. https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...481a20205.jpeg Templates new come with a hole saw with a guide pin. We only had the template so we cut a rod for a guide worked like a charm https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...427521b65.jpeg Drive hole cut. Still need to final fair sides of transom wanted to cut the hole soak it with epoxy then prime and paint so we didnt mess paint up. The X was set at 16.5 i know its a big debate some say 17 some say 18 etc. we set at 16.5 because a few other racers have set these here and ran well also i am running a 2” shorty with a spacer so we can go all the way to 18.5 if needed and keep our center of gravity lower. |

New tank in. We wentwd to bolt it but decided to foam it in due to space restrictions and they old tank was in almost 50 years and never leaked. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...01c419279.jpeg Floor is templated and cut. Heres where we have to do some thinking. The old floor was not rotted but flexed like crazy. So we decided to cut up the walls a little so we can lay 3/4 across the stringers and hull to stiffen the floor but also stiffen the boat some. We will tab a peice back into the wall and drop down to the floor. The original floor was 1-1/4 higher on the port side than starb so it made sense to get rid of it all. If youve ever workd with a 24 you know how bad the walls bow if i had some more time id be cutting the walls completely out but maybe next winter. |
Did you ever think a year ago you would be in this deep.
