XR/XZ reliability with 575-650 hp
 

Given the heft and wetted surface area of the hull, how are the drives holding up when you up the power a bit?

Talking purely singles in a 28

I am currently running a new X drive on a 572'' 730hp eng.on my 28 Pantera.I purchased the drive from offshore performance for $4,500, about 2,500 less than an XR.The drive is exactly the same as an XZ except it does not have the larger prop shaft.I only have about 6hrs on it so far,so time will tell.Although there was at least 100hrs on my previous stock bravo with a few different 650,730,800hp engs.It is all in the way you drive your boat.Hopefully the X drive will last a long time.

We are running a Bravo XZ drive on our 28 Pantera race boat . Power is a 600 HP 540 CI motor . We beat the snot out of this boat/motor combination . We logged about 20 hours on this combination - No problems at all .
The drive will come apart this winter for a rebuild . We'll see if all looks well .

Since posting this thread I bought Von Bongo's boat- don't actually have it yet- looks like early next week. It has the XR which appears to have a pretty stout top cap. I believe it has no drive shower- is there any benefit to using the innovation piece with the billet top cap or should I just get Simrek's full halo deal??

The 575 will be getting some Whipple help this winter and should be 720/730 with a bit more torque too.

As far as drive showers , I don't run one ( probably should ) As far as a new drive cap , I don't think you need one ???. I believe they are made for the left hand turning drive on twin applications . When a bravo 1 is turned in this direction , the drive cap gets the punishment in lieu of the bottom case tower ( Right hand ).

I am interested in buying the Merc blower assembly off of your 575SC if you put on the whipple - Give me a call if you want . 908-310-3052 .

Thanks! Actually, Dustin has an intercooler kit which ups boost and recals the computer. Keeps all the 575 goodies/appearance which I like.

Catt, congrats on buying Von's boat. She sure is a sweet boat...love the graphics. :)

I would highly suggest getting a billet top cap with a built in shower, you will thank me later

So, who makes one? Seems like I've seen billet caps but do they all have a shower built in? Right now Rich from Innovative is seeing what he can do with a unit that gets water from the intercooler dump.

Cattitude, congratulations on your new purchase. Patriot Games has been my inspiration to order a new Pantera 28. If you should choose to upgrade your drive from the XR I.T.S. that you currently have I'd be very interested in it as I'm considering the same for the 28 Sport Jo is quoting me on.

Keep me in mind.
