backwash
ok -- not sure if that is the correct term or not
but -- when i back off the throttle -- and let the boat fall off plane -- i'll get a surge of water over my stern -- its been bad enough to wash up all the way to the cockpit area. if i'm real careful and watch the surge -- i can throttle past it -- is this normal? am i doing something wrong?? i've got a 79 24' with a TRS drive sorry if this is a silly question!! :D |
Do you entirely back off the throtle and leave it there? when i back off the throttle i look back and when the water is coming i throttle up just a bit and have no problems.
|
if i do back off completely -- i get hit hard -- but i try and remember to look back and throttle through it
sometimes its hard to look back -- specially in a congested area just really curious if this was normal -- sounds like it is ? |
very normal, i guess i learned this when i had my jet boats and only had about 5 inches from the water to the tramson, lol.
|
Perfectly normal...it's your wake catching up with you. Just because your boat slows down, doesn't mean that the wake you created when travelling faster should slow down too. Just watch behind you and bump the throttle(s) to stay ahead of it.
|
ok -- thanks for the feed back!
i'll be more careful -- sometimes my passengers don't like getting soaked!! lol |
The best thing to do is to turn to either direction, this will change the direction of the surge;) .

Very normal. From a 13 whaler to a 32 blackfin.
I've swamped the whaler a few times. lotsa fun. You can also just back off slowly, especially the last 1000rpms. |
Mark,
Whats w/ the new screen name? KE 675 due to arrive this week & I'm headed for my final visit on 4/23 before I take delivery shortly there after. Whats new w/ you? Have you taken advantage of any of the good weather we've had? ML |
oh -- i wanted something different than just my name (although that itself is quite different) lol
good deal on the motor!! should be sweet! I've been doing some odds and ends on the boat -- new radio -- batt's, got a couple new gauges to put in -- i've been out about 3 times -- for a total of about 2 hours -- really hasn't been "great" out yet -- but fun enough!! i bet u are getting excited!! are you going to make the 18th meeting??
