2011 30' O/B Model-Nice

5 Attachment(s)
I had sent Will Smith a message regarding his build of a new 30' OB model, so he gave me the green light to post the pictures of the new 30', and some information, directly from Will,

"the intro price is 48K hull-deck-tank-interior no-power for the new O/B Sportster.
I can build a lighter all foam no wood version for 10k more; and for a lighter boat with the more expensive materials and the extra labor (for all the vacuum bagging involved) I can get the weight down to 1600 lbs or less. This boat loves the weight on the transom so the O/B(s) are going to work very well, and the handling should be excellent, if anyone wants to call me reach me at 941-351-3760 USA." (edited)

So if you want one, call him. With the price of fuel as it is now, not a bad option. Expected to run in the 90's mph out of the box with a target of 100 mph when dialed-in with twin Mercury 300XS outboards; not too shabby.

From Will, "it will be 4000 LBS rigged with 2-300xs with a full fuel tank, the hull weighs 1950 LBS now." (Posted with his permission) For those that do not know (most of you do know if your are in the Phantom section), the hole(s) on the side of the boat (one hole on each side of the boat) sucks the air in, and the multiple holes you see on the bottom is where the air is directed. Will Smith's step-bottom, it works, it aerates the bottom very effectively.

More from Will, " This is the brand new deck for outboards for the 30' race hull, I built this for the outboard lovers every where, this is the first one and it even has a cabin."

And, "the back 3' of the boat is water tight and the transom is raised so the 20" motors on 26" centers will completely surface and if you go with 25" motors you are up 3" and with the transom notch it should be an animal." WS (Will Smith)

"On 26" centers, the 20" 300xs would surface nicely but for all round performance and ski racing use 25" motors for the hole shot." WS

I like it. Going down to see it in April and discuss possible build of a light single outboard version.

He will build what you need, he definitely has the capability and experience to make it work.

Per Will, "this will surface a single 25" outbard for all out speed but a 30" would work all round performance."

Huh?--I wasn't aware of any 30" outboards. They only make them in 20 and 25" shafts. I'm looking @ using a 20" 300xs that I have on another boat.

They make 30" shaft outboards. A lot of offshore boats run the 30".

Bob,

This is right up your alley. You have a little experience with twin O/B hot-rods (I mean alot of experience, just being a wise ass)..

Ya, a pair of those 400 hp V-8s like I had on the 26' VELOCITY on this boat would be a bad ass ride, being as light they are. Bob

very sharp!

GTOFFSHORE 04-26-2011 01:07 AM

Got to see this boat the other day and man its nice. Kevlar floor, amazing bottom, and its just dam sexy. Will said it would run 100 with 300's and handle the water like his reg 29. If I could only sell mine is this market I would buy it in a heartbeat. So we are buying a cruiser as a second boat.):

I can't wait to go for a rip. I'm getting my engines ready to ship right now. And I'm dying to go down and go for a rip in Will's 30 and have lunch somewhere. Btw , Ketchy still salivatates over your boat. I think if banks were lending on boats like that he'd be askin for your #.

It is still sitting in the garage waiting for him. And Will knows some good places to boat to for lunch, I did enjoy that with him the week I was in Sarasota in 2009.

DPT MOTORSPORTS 07-02-2011 07:48 PM

Any updates or rigging photos??

bwd 07-03-2011 05:54 AM

Last week when I was there, there were two white pieces of boat 34 feet long being worked on. I"m betting though as soon as I walked out the door, everyone started workin on Wills raceboat.

donzimiami 07-06-2011 07:42 PM

Great pics! The black Phantom SVL #9 looked great in Sarasota! Who are they??
