HarborFest Norfolk, Va this weekend...!
HarborFest is an annual event, and normally huge. This year will be huge thanks to the celebration of the 400th Anniversary of the first landing (Va. Beach) and settlement in Jamestown, Va. Not since OpSail 2000 has there been such a collection of Tall Ships arriving and being part of this festival, especially in the back in the "Old Dominion" of Hampton Roads. As I type Tall Ships are sailing past the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel heading to their overnight anchorage just off Norfolk's Ocean View resort beach area. Tomorrow morning at 8am they weigh anchors and form up for a 4 hour Parade of Sail down the Elizabeth River towards Norfolk's downtown Waterside and Towne Point Park area.
The HRPA will be kicking off the day with a traditional "Pre-"Fest" raftup down the intercoastal a few minutes from Waterside at the infamous Cove. Then will proceed to Waterside for the night in a large raftup to watch a spectacular fireworks display from a barge.
I'm heading out the door right now to take the boat off the lift and cruise out to view the tall ships anchoring.
