I also heard something about no full canopys are being allowed either. Do you know anything about that Sharkey???
First off, no one has banned canopy boats from running in a Poker Run as far as I know. There were new guidelines made up over the winter that were to be implemented this year. So far that has got a late start but should be coming soon. I don't know if NPBA will be enforcing the guidelines this weekend, but if someone needs to be the 1st to implement it, then it might as well be the NJPPC. With a majority vote this past weekend 12 to 5 the NJPPC decided to stick to the new guidelines agreed upon with many of the other Poker Run Clubs as well as many Boat Manufacturers. With any canopy boat that wants to run with the NJPPC they will need to follow these guidelines: • * Provide their own rescue helicopter with a trained safety dive team while running in the event. • * Must not have more than 2 participants inside the boat at all times. • * Must provide proof prior to the event that the driver and throttleman are both “dunk tank test” certified. • * Must have the boat inspected prior to the event to ensure that there is a full time oxygen system on board and is fully operational. • * Crew must use full time oxygen system at all times when running the boat in the event. (In my opinion)The one thing I feel we can work with is if we had 3 canopy boats, keep them in one group out in front of the rest of the fleet and 1 helicopter would be sufficient. The concerns obviously are the visibility of the other boats around them, only 2 people to rescue in the event of a mishap, and knowing how to get out of the canopy in case of a rollover. And of course, you need oxygen to live... ;) |

Friday I got a chance to drive a 07 42 Lighting with 850's. Did a 117 mph up the River. WOW!! hopped over 6 and 7 footers with ease. Loved it.
