OFFSHORE RACES CONFIRMED!!!
The biggest poker run in the west has just become even bigger! The Desert Storm Poker Run, scheduled for April 24-25-26, 2008 in Lake Havasu City, Arizona, is now a triple-header event with a Poker Run, a High Speed Shoot-Out, and an Offshore Race plus a Street Party! The boating extravaganza kicks-off on Thursday night, April 24 with a giant Street Party starting at 5:00pm on McCulloch Boulevard featuring as many as one-hundred of the most exotic high performance boats in the country. Then on Friday, the traditional Desert Storm Poker Run with up to 200 boats begins at 10:30am followed by an outdoor party at the Nautical Inn Cove that evening. On Saturday, motors start to rev at 8:30am as Lake Havasu hosts its first High Speed Shootout where boats will be radar-timed along a one-mile straightaway for top speed and bragging rights. At 12 noon the Shootout takes a break while POPRA conducts a full-on offshore race. Then at 2;00pm, the High Speed Shootout resumes for another three-hours. Finally, the three-day speed-fest concludes that night at 7:00pm with an Awards Dinner at the Lake Havasu Aquatic Center. Better make your plans immediately -- we bet there won't be a hotel vacancy in town! For more information log on to www.lakeracer.com Theres already over 100 boats signed up for the poker run and around 50 boats from various racing organizations commited to racing on Sat. Jim, Art and the rest of the DS-08 organizers are still working out the final details and the races may be held on Sunday but they are for sure happening! Look here for an updated entry list to be posted with in the next few days. Hope to see everyone out there for this awesome run! |

I will speak for Jim since he hasn't seen your question yet and if I'm wrong, I'm sure he'll point it out... but no I don't think there's any problem with that. You can update it when you have the new boat info. Just make sure you have your reg. (or paperwork showing new purchase) and insurance info by the time you check in for regestration. You can also supply the information on the boat you're buying on the reg. form so you wont have to update it and it shows on the lists that are published on the various web sites.;)
Congrats on the new boat purchase by the way...What'cha buying? Another Eliminator? See you out there. Yup - another Elim - this time going with the 36 Coupe - ILMOR 625s & IMCO Extremes. Pic Attached. I'm pumped. I hope the test drive meets expectations. Attachment 328931 |

Shootout course and the race course.
For those that are not familiar with the lake. The top of the pic to the left (boat slips) is the main marina and just bellow that is The Nautical Inn. At the very top of the pic is the entrance to the channel that leads to the london bridge, The London Bridge Resort, etc. |

Or, make up some 3'-4' signs and place them at the entry station of each facility and ask that each ranger make reference to the sign. 7-8 signs should do it, right? Not saying that you haven't thought about it, you have a great event and safety has never been compromised. I know you guys are pulling our hair out this year with all these activities, just trying to throw some stuff out there to make life easier in the long run. If there is anything I can help with, or could hang from my boat, I am willing to try and help. ----------------------------- Great ideas Mike. The Coast Guard requires us to put the signs at each marina and we have done so every year. Would you believe we got flack at Windsor because we hold up traffic due to people reading the signs We be trying all of that again this year, plus I send letters to all of the LEO groups and agencies requesting their help, and we'll be having meetings with them as well. We are going to set "No Wake Buoys" accross just north of Copper Canyon and approximately just south of the Islander RV park. Creating a huge no wake zone during the day. Also required by the Coast Guard We will need many vounteer safety boats to patrol these areas and warn boaters. We have a booth at the LHC boat show this month, all trying to get the word out. Come by and help support the event by purchasing Desert Storm Shootout shirts, Poker Run posters and DVDs This puppy is one expensive MOFO and we've lost about 25% of sponsorship from last year I've got my work cut out for me there, if any of you can help, drop me a line [email protected] We'll also have shirts and stuff for sale on the street party and we're setting up a spectator area at Rotary Park/Body Beach, with a booth there. We are requesting vendors and food concessions for that area as well. We asking $150.00 donation from those vendors to help defray the costs (you can contact Todd Taylor [email protected] of Jokers Wild Promotions - he's heading that effort up for us), but there are no fees to the spectators wanting to bring out their lawn chairs and enjoy the day (or days if it goes into Sunday) Should you want to get your shirts early, go visit our website online store http://www.lakeracer.com and place your orders, I'm printing some now and more around first of April, we'll mail them to you! Should you want your boat in the Street Party/Show, Contact Karl Ecker [email protected] or Todd Headlee [email protected] or Ted Groszewski [email protected] and let them know, sorry no drop ins! Once again, we're asking for charity donations above and beyond the sponsorships, The charity recipiant this year is changing, splitting between the "Havasu for Youth" organization who we supported in our "Heatwave" years and possilby the "Patrick Tinnell Memorial Sports Park" depending on the money raised. Last year we donated over $20,000 to "Solders Angels/Troups Now and Tomorrow" due to many of you who did "pay pal" and check donations before the event. We donate 20% of the Poker Run Jackpot and match that amount from the event proceeds. Also, on our website store I set up a donation selection payable by Mastercard and Visa and you get an immediate receipt for your offering. That money goes directly to the Charity(s) and we've already raised over $1000.00 there just from the poker run participants adding it to their registrations! Many of you guys who know me personally, hear me say every year, this is the last one, because by the time the event gets here, I am done - stick a fork in me. Both Art and I have full time "real" jobs and pull time to work this thing from our family and boating time. Fortunately, our families and friends make it possible by helping and supporting our efforts beyond any reasonable measure. Their (and yours) excitement about the event is what drives us to try it again and figure out how to "Raise the Bar" every year I guess what I'm tring to say, is, Don't take it for granted this event will always be here and make the most of it. Enjoy it, support it, talk it up and spread the excitement!!! We may not post alot, but we're always listening to your ideas, criticism and kudo's, they mean a lot to us! Thanks for letting me rant. :) Jim |
Thanks Jim...It is going to be a great event this year!!
