Is there a good spot to watch the action from shore?

Can I sign in here for the entire OSS Racing Organization?

We made it official last week, OSS will be coming to Havasu for a full points race with a $50,000 prize purse. We expect to bring close to 20 boats including Bud Light and maybe, just maybe we can get one of the Miss Geico boats to show up. Right now, they seem a bit jammed to make the trek west. We look forward to help make this the biggest boating event of the season.

So it looks like:
Thurs night street party
Friday Poker Run
Saturday - Speed runs, POPRA race and OSS testing
Sunday - OSS Racing noon - 3pm

I'll be there Wed - Monday to cover the Poker Run for Extreme Boats Magazine and then work the OSS races on the weekend. We are really excited to be working with Jim and Kevin from POPRA and Lake Racer to make this event even bigger. And it looks like we are extending it a day, so don't run home on Sunday morning. We've got some racing to do.

Two questions since most of us from the east coast have never been to Havasu before:

What size crowd can be expected on Sunday and where's the best watering hole for at night?

I look foward to meeting a bunch of my left coast OSO brothers, even Nort and Tank.:p

The complete OSS schedule can be downloaded from the racer resources section of www.offshoresuperseries.com.

See ya there!

To follow up with the above post...

Updated schedule:

Thursday night block party with over 130 participants including poker run boats /shoot-out boats /apba & oss Race boat!

Friday; the DS-08 poker run

Friday night; poker run party at The Nautical

Saturday mid morning; shoot-out begins
Saturday afternoon; PORPA races/OSS practice runs
Saturday late afternoon; shoot-out continues

Saturday night shoot-out awards party at The Nautical

Sunday; OSS races

The crane for the race boats will be located at The Nautical Inn launch ramp.

Wet pits will be located at the Nautical Inn launch ramp temporary docks.

Dry pits/Race compound will be located in the field near the Nautical Inn

I would venture to say this is the largest single weekend/all inclusive performance boating event in the nation and will rival Key West Worlds, 'one upping them' with the shootout.

See you all on the water!

The crowds are large in general on this weekend. Sunday routinely slows down "slightly" but not much. There will definately be enough people there to make it worth the haul!

Watering holes...Well...

The Nautical Inn (where the poker run is based out of) has the Naked Turtle. Right on the water in the Nautical cove. Tiki Bar-esq. Music playing loud, sand on the floor, layed back atmosphere. No dancing though. Powerboat Mag just listed it in their top 10 watering holes article.

Across the channel at The London Bridge Resort (un-offical secondary poker run base) has the Martini Bay, little more "dressy", dance floor, sofas, darkly lit, "clubbish".

Next to the Martini Bay is Kokomo's. Large outdoor bar/club. Dress up or dress down, it doesn't matter. I've been in there when theres 2 thousand people (literally!). It can get very crazy!

Theres also the Red Room across the parking lot from the london bridge. Club, dancing, etc.

I can pretty much gaurantee the poker run/shootout/racers will be at the naked turtle or the two clubs at the London Bridge.

Jim is emailing me the updated list.

175 boats for the poker run so far (which means with last minute sign ups it'll be over 200 like normal)

50 boats signed up so far for the shootout

20-30 APBA boats

16 OSS boats

130+ participants or the block party.

Just spent my frist weekend at Havasu - wholy @#$@#! what a setup you all have. What a gorgeous lake with the mountains, desert, coves, etc...crazy contrasts...very cool.

Stayed at the London Bridge - very convenient for channel aantics, Kokomos, Martini Bay - and "Style" just opened up across the parking lot of the London Bridge...docking leaves a little to be desired there...my 36' can only fit on the end docks - but they don't assign specific slips to you there, it's first come first serve and I got squeezed out of the slip I was staying in and had to get creative...have a feeling that this is going to be an issue during the run as I am sure I won't have the only boat of this size there...

Left my new boat at the Lake w/Prestige Marine.

Coming back Sunday for more recreation w/the family this time - then they scoot out, and some buddies roll in on Thurs for the DS08 w/me.

I have sent them some video of Copper Canyon, and channel activities - they are out of their mind and counting down the days - as am I.

Met some very cool people - dragged me to Copper Canyon, Steamboat Cove, Naked Turtle, channel, etc...only regret was not making it up to the sand bar. This gang asked us to follow them up there - but I was told the water was down 3' and there are some very shallow areas - I wimped out and didn't want to leave 2 new IMCOs in your river...stayed south of the island.

Work sucks - can't wait to get back up there....
