FeedBack on the Texas Outlaw Challenge
Any feedback on the Texas Outlaw Challenge. Even though most of the events were cancelled due to high winds, how did you think it went?
|
for a first year event it went ok, i know next year it will be bigger and we might be pressed for room
|
I traveled from Austin for the event. I certainly support the idea of canceling the run due to the high winds and poor water conditions. Safety should never be compromised for popularity.
I would like to suggest that the stakeholders consider a two course set up for future events. Course A in the original position in anticipation of southerly winds and Course B in a different area in anticipation of north winds. If both course layouts were on the books, a choice could be made after reviewing the local weather forecast just days or hours before the event began. I wish you success for next year...... |
that is a good idea, if they has a course set up to run into the wind they could have run the event.

I made the haul from Austin and volunteered as a patrol boat about 2mos before the event..................
My .02 They should have been more up-front about who was attending and how many boats. I made contact with the safety officer 2 weeks before the event; asked who was coming and quizzed hard about making the pull if nobody was showing up. I was assured there were 30+ boats and it would be a blowout. Fine. Patrol boats were to meet at the hotel 8am to go over details and get course assignments. Lots of him-hawing around before we finally meet in the parking lot next to the Boardwalk hotel. After speaking to Karen no less than 5xs about volunteering and getting a good spot on the course, I show up and don't even see my name on the list as a voluteer. Very disorganized and come to find out ........30mins before the event was to kick off......a whopping 8 boats had entered. Not trying to nit-pick or sound negative, but the whole thing seemed to have no leadership and no direction. I hope they have better luck next year and turn this into a cool event. |
Wasn't this event the same weekend as Tickfaw?

Long story long I agree with you about the communications and organization. There can always be more of both. Going forward I hope that the weather is better and the experience will be better than last time. The producers/directors of this event have gained valuable knowledge and will hopefully use it!! Again please accept my sincere apology for the "snub" and the weather. kfp |
All good, Karen. No hard feelings.
I plan on coming back next year. |
