Lets face it not popular with the stops but it has become way to crowded and with paint jobs costing more than my first power boat it becomes more work than fun. .

If my memory is correct I think your crew kept us from hitting you at one of the last stops on the canal in the afternoon. My crew had jumped off to piss and get a card and left me hanging. I was in a red & white 42 Fountain. I rember being pissed how conjested, and windy it was, plus 75% of my crew got off at one stop. No fiberglass swapping but a little frustrating at the time. If it was you thanks for the help:)

I have attended the Tickfaw 200 the last two years and really enjoyed Charlie's runs and antics. We were looking forward to coming this year and are disappointed but understand why it has been canceled.

I am truly confused as to why there would be be another run the same day as they are honoring Charlie. This seems conflicting and for someone who would have to travel quite a distance, and is causing me to consider not attending this year. While I appreciate what Charlie did, it would seem uncomfortable participating in a poker run while the procession to honor Charlie is going on.

you feel as many of us here feel...I don't know all the details on why this has happened..I don't think the other PR people have given a reason as to why they would pick this date knowing full well that this has always been, as far back as I can remember, the Tickfaw 200 dates and fully aware that in 2011 the 200 will be back and especially that some kind of event would take place until next year. I wish they would chime in here and give us some insight...:party-smiley-004:... it may smooth some ill feeling that I know exist out here and apparently out your way as well...just my .02

From what i know - both Steve with Royal Purple and I (Patriot Poker Run) were contacted by a few people suggesting putting on a run for that day since so many were planning on coming in town. I know since last year Steve was planning on moving his (Royal Purple)date up a few weeks anyway so he contacted the stops to make the arrangements for that date for this year. When Prop Stop announced they were putting on a poker run on that same day he called to find out if the stops had been double booked. I think after Prop Stop found out he had plans on doing his run on that date is when they changed their date to Memorial Weekend. After all arrangements have been made then a memorial parade (procession) was announced for that weekend. It is pretty difficult once you have the ball rolling to make changes on an event like a poker run.
I think Steve changed his date in order to fill a void (at the time nothing was planned) I am sure the participants plan to honor charlie in a procession and then continue on to a poker run like has been done for years. I believe Steve started putting on the Royal Purple one year after Charlie started the Tickfaw 200. Both contributing to good causes.

thanks for filling us in. I can see how things got jumbled up and we all want whats best for everyone down on the river that's for sure. i still remember the weekends when you had to weave your way through the boats at The Prop Stop, lets all hope those days return and I hope you guys have a great turn out for your Poker Runs.

Blood River 03-03-2010 02:56 PM

Well well guys.
Steve called us at Blood river Landing some weeks ago & talked to me (Ruby).
I did ask why Charlie's date after all these years.I'll tell you what I feel he's just running on Charlie tail for a number of reason, and the big reason is the money.
I ever asked if next year we could work out something for us to have the first weekend of May back.So far I have not heard a word from him again.
Again I not happy it but it is what is .
We'll be back 2011.
But hoping to see a lot you come out on May 1st. for our ride & to party at the prop stop. They have a lot going on that day.
Thanks for begin Charlie friends.
Ruby

Craig, I don't know you all that well, but the little correspondenses we have had, has all been good. I like what you do. Respectfully, I do not agree with a lot of what you said. I got chewed up pretty good about a recent post and decided I should just hang out on my site, on my forum, with my friends. {which I intend to do....and many will appreciate}. I am only going to say this once: Charlie wouldn't want a poker run moving to May 1st. Those putting on a poker run on May 1st, had they asked those Charlie left to run things, would know that they would not approve. Therefore, moving to this date was simply to exploit what Charlie built. It is as simple as that. To do it under the guise that this year this particular poker run to strive to improve {never did that before} is just smoke and mirrors. Last I checked, the Royal Purple STILL had not even updated their website {less that two months out}. They could still change their date and they should. If they did, I'd be first in line to support the Royal Purple AND I think they would be showing a lot of class doing so.

I ask all that know me and my fellow "River Rat Friends" to support the boat processions in Charlie's Memory on May 1st and May 2nd. It's for Charlie and it should be AWESOME. ...and remember do what Charlie used to say, "Be Boat Safe." Support the places that Charlie liked to vist on the water, too. If you knew Charlie, you know which places I am talking about.

LAriverratt 03-03-2010 03:13 PM

I was under the impression from craig@GOffshore post that this years royal purple was a one year deal...is it??? I got the impression that it was to have a poker run for everyone to go on and a weekend to have a party in charlies honer?? If not HMMMM.... so can anyone clear that one up for me??? I can't imagine someone wanting that date...It has always been the tickfaw 200 as it always should. There are plenty of other weekends in this neck of the woods to hold other runs.

I am not involved with the Charlie Memorial or the Royal Purple poker run - Most know that I have a website (www.gcoffshore.com) like rob (riverrat) and I think we were both trying to post information for the boating comunity so they can make plans in the upcoming months -
I will will stay out of this discussion in ref to - he said - she said - and stay with posting info i know in reference to what events are taking place and how to find out more about the event - I not trying to post who is right, wrong, when, where or etc -
I try to cover and participate in as many events as i can and post the pictures of them (sometimes even when i don't attend i still get pictures posted)
I'm hoping all works out well for all the events that will be taking place that weekend.

Craig, thanks. For those that don't know, Craig is being a bit modest. He, and his group, host "The Patriot Poker Run" (one of the last poker runs, extending our boating season. They also have a bunch of other events, promoting the boating community. Lake Pontchartrain would be boring without Craig. He is my main source for all that happens that way.

Now, a few people know I had (have) a unique friendship with Crazy Charlie. I'm not taking away from the Tickfaw 200, but Craig does everything right with The Patriot Poker RUn. Organized, first class. Top notch. Very cool.

The Baton Rouge Boat Club hosts one of the first poker runs of the season and The Patriot is one of the last. I share Craig's feelings and don't want to get into a war of words and a lot of bad feelings. I have a party for my son, Jonathan, and got lots of grief for hosting an event at The Sandbar on Lake Maurepas. The same kind of stuff: Lake Bash people ready to kick my ass (although I never would have moved to their date and have ALWAYS supported both Lake Bash(s). {I think} we are past that now. I probably will not even do my JAM for Jonathan in 2010, or if I do, it will be of a more private nature.

Back on subject: we got Craig trying to spread the word about another poker run {doesn't even mention his}. That's Craig. Check him out at The Boat Show at The Superdome this weekend! The Patriot Poker Run, Saturday, Sept 25th. Cooler weather and a very big deal. Katrina kicked ass and wiped out a lot of places around Pontchartrain. Craig is doing his part to revitalize boating on "The BIG Pond.". My hat is off to him.

I NEVER heard Charlie say one bad thing about Craig or The Patriot Poker Run. I can't say the same about the other and the new May 1st bunch.

Again, please move the May 1st poker to another weekend, the weekend before or the weekend after. Would show some great taste and a lot of class. Also, look ahead: The Tickfaw 200 WILL BE BACK in 2011 on May 1st. Will have to change the date (again} then or have one hell of a confusing mess and lots of problems that no one needs.

A lot of hard feelings can / will go away. A poker run smack in the middle of a slow moving boat procession? Come on now, we can do better and we should.

People such as yourself, and those closest to Charlie will be in the boat procession and at the P.S. His family and close friends will be there. I STILL wish we could do something for all Charlie's biker friends. I hope they can find a way out there, too. Your heart is in the right place, dude, (the same for many others). Glad I know a lot of you, and those I don't, I look forward to meeting out on the water.

Get reeady for 2011

Quite sure everyone is aware The Tickfaw 200 will be back in 2011. {Always the first Saturday in May}. I am hearing a lot of love on this thread from people about Charlie and The 200. For that reason, I am inviting everyone to get on Charlile's email list, maintained by Ruby and at Blood River Landing. Even if you 'think' you are on it it, not a bad idea to re-send. Simply shoot an email to [email protected] with Tickfaw 200 in the subject line. (Confidential, Ruby is the only one that will ever see it). Next year will be very special and if you want to stay up to date and be the first to know what is planned (well in advance), this is the way. Going to post this on several other threads to get the word out and any help passing this on is appreciated.
They are busy, very busy, planning for 2011. It will be the best it can be (without Charlie, of course). We all know Charlie is a very difficult act for any of us to follow.....but they are doing their best. I wish I could tell you just some of what I am hearing, but it would only sound like "hype."
Get on that e-mail list, watch for Charlie's website (www.dundeeproductions.com) to start being updated, and mark it down on your calendar for 2011. Please tell others, too. Thanks, Rob

seems to me the logical thing to do is have rp on sat. and a liesurely memorial ride on sunday for charlie! That way sunday all boats in town and around can do both! Id rather party hard on sat. and slow cruise on sunday! really , i always thought early may was a little cool and always windy! Not sure why anyone would fight for that day, or month! just saying....

Probably because it is so brutally hot the rest of the summer. And, it was one helluva event to kick off the summer with. I would rather it be a little windy and rough than riding in glass smooth bath water all day. As you said, jus sayin

Look, there are some raw feelings about the whole situation and that's just the way it is. Kinda like discussing religion or politics. Everyone has their viewpoint and you're not going to change anyone's mind at this point. Let's get through this year. Next year all will be right with the world again.

Let's have a safe and fun first weekend of May, no matter which event you choose to attend. Show our out of town guests a great time. See you guys on the water!

Summers around here have really not been the same as it was 2 years ago let's all make the most out of this one. Not enough people in the boating community as it is to not get along all need to get togather and have fun with all. Needs to be pretty damn good time this summer to justify all the cake we spend on our chariots. Just my .02

+1 The past couple years have been weak on the water, to say the least. Hell, you used to have to weave through the boats at the Prop Stop on any holiday weekend. Now you could almost blast through there at cruising speed. Looking forward to seeing everyone this year!!

BTW, there's gonna be a nice new Ciggie on the Tickfaw this year. 42X with a pair of 900's and 6's. Took a ride in it yesterday. Sweet!!

Drop in boating

The boating industry (across the board, not just power boats) have been experiencing their worst year(s) EVER. Several of our power boat maufacturers have went belly up or bought out. Not good.

The economy and gas prices have people a bit puckered up, too. I do what I can to promote ALL events on ALL of our waterways. A lot of us welcome new events and not necesssarily 'just' poker runs, (of which, we have a bunch each year).

I have said what I had to say about another poker run moving to May 1st this year. I hope all that paticipate (especially our out of towners) have a fun and safe trip and come back often.

I would like to do what I can to assist with The Tickfaw 200 in 2011. So, to you experienced power boaters that enjoy running poker runs all over this great country of ours, please do me a favor. Straight up, I'd like to hear from you about ideas and suggestions on how to make the best possible poker run. (Most especially the things you like AND don't like about poker runs you have been on; both in Lousiana and elsewhere). A sincere request on my part. Either post here, or e-mail to me at [email protected]. I want to hear from you.

I will be passing on to my friends at Blood River Landing the ideas and suggestions I receive. (Please, no *****ing or complaining...ideas and suggestions is what we want)! When I say 'they' (Tickfaw 200 People) are busy NOW planning for NEXT YEAR, I really mean it. I am excited about it and I know Charlie is proud of what they are doing. I am cancelling several events that I had planned for this year, finishing up several pending projects I am working on, and volunteering to do whatever I can to help them. I hope you start now....before boating season even begins this year, to get excited about NEXT YEAR.

I look forward to hearing from you. Thanks.
