Sept 10-11, 2010 Lake Erie - Huron River - FAST BOAT COMPETITION is on!
The "Fastest Boat on Lake Erie" Competition event has been moved from one day on Thursday, to a two-day headlining event on Saturday-Sunday, September 11-12, 2010.
Here is a link to the promoters site:
http://lakeerieboatweek.com/
No one has ever held a competition for the “Fastest Boat on Lake Erie”
This event for powerboats will take place Saturday, September 11th,
with practice and some competitions from 1:30-5:00 PM, and Sunday,
September 12th, with practice in the morning, and class competitions in
the afternoon from approximately 12:30-5:00PM
The exact format of the competition HAS CHANGED AS OF AUGUST 1,
2010: The event will be a TWO-DAY event, held on Lake Erie (not in the
Huron River). Tentatively, boats will get two practice runs on Saturday
(single boat runs), and will draw for their spots to take the shot at the
FBOLE either late Saturday (slower classes), or Sunday afternoon. The
boat with the fastest speed will be named the “Fastest Boat on Lake
Erie" for that class, and own the bragging rights for the following year
There will be a starting mark out on Lake Erie where boats will have
approximately one mile to get up to speed, a mark where their speed
will be measured (outside of the mouth of the Huron River), and the
boats will then have approximately 1/2- to 1-mile to cool down after
their run. All boats will have their speed measured by radar gun (and
possibly GPS)
The boat racing lane will be a single lane and the competition will be
single-boat runs. All of the speed trials will be on Lake Erie, NOT in the
Huron River (as previously announced), all within easy view of the
public, allowing many viewing areas throughout each afternoon
HIGH-SPEED POWERBOATS WILL COMPETE INDIVIDUALLY ON A CLOSED
COURSE. SPEEDS WILL BE DETERMINED BY A RADAR GUN AT A FIXED
LOCATION NORTH OF THE MOUTH OF THE HURON RIVER.
BOAT CLASSIFICATION WILL BE DETERMINED BY HULL TYPE AND
ESTIMATED TOP SPEED.
CLASSES
Super Cat 36' - 55' length, unlimited engine requirements
Production Cat 30' - 40' production engines, inboard / outboard
Super V 38' - 50' step bottom, unlimited engine requirements
Production V 32' - 45' step bottom, production engines, inboard /
outboard
Classic V 30' - 50' non step, unlimited engine
requirements
**Classes may be subject to change according to entries
ENTRY FEE: $100.00 per boat

And what exaclty do entrants get for their $100.00? A T-Shirt? A bottle of beer?
I have to say, the whole thing sounds great on paper, but when I go to that site, it all seems like somebody's pipe dream. All the Nationwide Regatta events have registration forms marked "to come." To come? It's Aug. 12, for god's sake ... I'd say if you don't have some people signed up by now, you're done.
The $250 club? Are thos still the people from last year? What are they getting?
I might head up there to see if there's anything to check out, since my boat's out of the water right now anyway - but it's hard to imagine this thing living up to it's hype. Seems most of the local fast boaters are skeptical, too...
I wish them luck, but I think the organizers of this event aren't reaching out to the right audience - too little and too late....

Yep, I agree the "Director" certainly is a bit late...but I've personally spoken with some sponsors. I am trying to let them know they HAVE to update the site and look like they are prepared.
I am just a FAN who is trying to help drive some attendance.

Huron, Ohio (August 12, 2010) – Janie Vogel, Event Creator and Director of the Lake Erie Boat Week event, has entered into an agreement with the Offshore Powerboat Association (OPA), an internationally recognized professional offshore powerboat racing sanctioning body, to support and sanction Lake Erie Boat Week’s “Fastest Boat on Lake Erie” Competition, to be held September 11-12, 2010, as part of a six-day event.
“To develop a new race site, the OPA needs a race producer to stand up and take on the enormous task of working with the local community to put together a first-class event,” stated Ed Smith, President, OPA Racing LLC....
.... OPA will provide on-water insurance, inspectors, a few race teams and rescue divers. This will not be an OPA Race, however, it will be run as an OPA event, following the OPA rulebook and safety guidelines.

What does the $100.00 go towards? Her pocket?
Its to late, she has pissed off alot of the boaters that tried to help her put on this event. We would all love to have this event in the area, just with a different promoter at this point. Somebody that is not just trying to fill there own pockets.

It's a shame...the area needs something like this.
