Castaways Poker Run 2012, July 19-22, Lake Lanier, GA
Castaways Poker Run 2012
Lake Lanier, Georgia---- Castaways Poker Run 2011 was a great success. The Poker Run is in it's infancy having completed it's third year. The second year the run raised $10,000 for the two chosen charities: Camp Sunshine and Children of Fallen Soldiers. This year through the valiant efforts of the Lanier Partners of North Georgia, $30,000 was donated to the charities. There were 153 captains and boats registered. The momentum has started and the goal for 2012 is to raise $100,000 for the kids. This goal is attainable, but only with your help, along with the volunteers and donations it takes to put on such an event with many logistical twists and turns, can it be accomplished.
The first action taken by the board toward planning for the 2012 Poker Run was to change the date. The 2011 date conflicted with one of the oldest established poker runs in the country at Lake of the Ozarks in August.
The new dates are July 19th thru 22nd
and we have our permit from the DNR.
The attendees will be invited to arrive at Lake Lanier ,Thursday, July 19, for an informal meet and greet. On Friday there will be a "Cheeseburger in Paradise" Fun Run to a raft up spot for a casual, in the water, catered cookout followed by the Captains party and Swimsuit Pageant that night. The Poker Run will take place on Saturday, July 21, followed by awards presentation and after party at Sunset Cove(renamed "Pirate Cove" for the day) Lake Lanier Islands with many upgrades from last year. Sunday will be relax on the lake and departure day.
All of the great sponsors from last year are invited to return as well as help promote new sponsors.
For the first time, we have a presenting sponsor, Reliable Heating and Air. Many levels will be available, in addition to many levels to accommodate all sponsorship interest.
Pier 57 will be on hand with the fantastic Hospitality Hauler.
In 2011, Castaways Poker Run received rave reviews from local media such as network news, Lakeside News and several radio stations. This year the Poker Run will graduate on to the national poker run scene being listed in every boating publication with emphasis on performance power boating. And don't forget the power of the social media. The Facebook page is firmly in place and growing.
The Lanier Partners of North Georgia(a 501(c)3 Foundation) board of directors wishes to extend our gratitude to you for considering this event and invite you to climb aboard, weigh anchor and help guide us toward a goal with a great return for kids in need around the Southeast and to promote friendship and fun for like minded water enthusiasts.

Lake Lanier is about 40 miles long, similar size to Lake Murray. 30 mile run from the dam to North card stop then it's all about the fun for a great cause--kids. We will raise 100,000 dollars this year. Come join the fun and our added "cheeseburger in paradise" raft up on steriods on the Friday fun run at 10:30 am.
Floating docks and Lake Lanier Islands is a great venue for this event. All info will be coming up on website soon.
