Cumberland Thunder Run 2013

Just trying to plan ahead for the Thunder Run next summer & It looks like the Grinder Hill Marina Lodge is the only place to stay. Whats the best place to stay lodge, cottages or "sasafrass suites"? Nearest hotel i could find was 35 miles away in Glasgow, KY. Jamestown Marina?? but it seems to be a ways down the lake.

We get a house boat and stay at the dock but you must enter the run..or go to Lake Cumberland .com , for more info.or try State Dock Lure lodge. Its a good time.

20outlaw 09-28-2012 10:29 AM

Grider Hill is def the best place to stay for that weekend, you have camping, lodge, and boatels to choose from, there are hotels in Albany KY about 15 miles from Grider Hill. We will be updating the website www.cumberlandpokerrun.com with new dates and info for 2013 soon, looks like the 5th Annual Lake Cumberland Thunder Run will be June 21-23 2013

Were you at the Old Hickory Run this year? My wife and i met some folks form Cincinatti that were on a Fountain Red/White/Black Executioner.

20outlaw 09-28-2012 12:15 PM

The rooms at the Lodge at Grider Hill def go fast, the boatels usually take a little longer to go, although we did have boatel row full with the exception of one boat I think last year, we will be having meeting with Grider Hill in the next month or so and will let everyone know what the rates/ availabilty will be.

There's a Best Western right on the highway in Albany, Ky, turn right on Hwy 90 going away from Monticello, Ky. Maybe a half mile.

Thunder Run 2013

Just a "heads up" if you have not booked your lodging at Grinder Hill Marina for the June Thunder Run you might want to call this week. I just booked today and they had (1) upper level lodge room left she did not mentioned the other room types only that they were getting "pretty full" for that weekend.

bigredbaja 01-14-2013 02:09 PM

I've never been to this run before so dont hold me to this but when i phoned over the weekend to inquire about rooms and the boatels i was told they only do the Boatels a few days in advance if the houseboats are not booked to be out on the lake as rentals.

That is not the case, most likely just a uninformed winter employee, we will be having a meeting with Grider Hill to go over the 2013 Thunder Run and set boatel rates etc. soon, when that happens the info will be posted here as well as facebook and the website, you will be able to rent a boatel, if you are interested give me or Dan a call and we will give you the info. And thanks for the heads up, I will give Grider a call tomorrow and make sure they are giving correct info.

tim brown 01-14-2013 07:29 PM

tim brown 01-14-2013 08:41 PM

gofastlvr 01-14-2013 09:58 PM

If the lake levels are still down the lodge will walk you to death! Especially after a dozen beers at the party... The Boatel is the way to go for sure and it is pretty easy to get some folks to partner with you. Dan and Justin do a GREAT job and this run is a must on the schedule for the summer!!

bajadad 01-15-2013 09:14 AM

I booked a room in the lodge this morning,I missed going last year due to boat being broke down!!

bdub153 01-15-2013 12:57 PM

Anyone know a rough estimate of cost of the boatels and how many they sleep. Working on getting a crew together. Thanks in advance

There is also camping available at Grider Hill, and as far as hotels off the marina there are a few in Albany KY prob about 15 miles from Grider.

Baja25PJ 01-23-2013 08:59 PM

jmoore1225 01-31-2013 01:37 AM

Wondering what's gonna happen w/ the party scene. Will everyone still pile into Harmon, will everyone take it back to the falls? Or half & half hmmmm.....

Baja25PJ 01-31-2013 05:57 PM

I talked to Justin last week and he mentioned making the party stop at the falls.

Good deal, Ill have it figured out by the end of this month and let you know, just waiting for all the boat shows in the area to be done and so we can meet with Grider Hill and discuss some things, and getting a spot for your motor home at the bottom of the hill is one of them, so Ill should have something for ya next month.
