We had a great time at the Thunder Run. Grider was a little more difficult to deal with on slips than State Dock, but it turned out ok.

Difficult to deal with I which way? I got a spot after some minor complications. It was trying to walk around the death traps the docks seemed to have way to many of that got very old very quick for a lot of us.

When we got in line at the counter, it was no less than 2 hours until we had secured a slip. There were only 3 people in front of us. Poor gal at the counter was doing the best she could, but they don't have a slip management system robust enough to deal with 100 boats coming in. They didn't know what they had open vs what they didn't have open. It took a trip to the slip to confirm - each time, and multiple times.

We lost what felt like half a day standing in line. Oh well, we still had a great time, and maybe they will learn something that they can improve for next year.

State Dock has all the poker run boats in one area, side by side by side. They dedicate a whole area just to participant boats.

Grider puts you all over the place, where ever there is a open space in the maze of a marina.

2 things 1) State Dock owns/hosts/organizes their run which give them the motivation to provide that level of accommodation. 2) these are two totally different marinas, Grider does not have the docks or arrangement of dock to put 100 extra boats all together.

With that said, Grider does a great job. And the Thunder Run is a excellent event. I appreciate both the Marina and the organizers. See you in '15!

I had a blast running in thunder run however I agree above the slips sucked. They stuck me all the way at end of house boat slips... 20 min walk to where party was walked to turn in cards walked back to boat for a beverage said heck with it and left. Was hoping to be closer oriented with other boats and comoradary.
