Unfortunately, that has been a bad and deadly weekend on that body of water, several times over. :( That's why so much "attention" is given.

Majority have turned into ego's and alcoholics. But not the gearhead kind who want to run real offshore powerboats. Most just want to show off their money or are just wanna be ballers.

Theres not even much gearhead conversation anymore.

More than other places? Quick google search says one fatality 2024: , 1:30 am they hit a log... 2023 2 brother2 on a jet ski hit a boat , didn`t find anything about any poker run fatalities or any other reasons for the cops to be out in such force except to try and shut it down so people don`t come.Mission accomplished there .
Every place has their share of fatalities most don`t turn into police lakes with the Brown coats patrolling with an iron fist.

I have to agree with Sydwayz. Just about every incident on the lake, fatality or not, involves alcohol. Personally, I welcome the patrol, and I get a warm fuzzy when I see them hauling a boat load of drunk azzhats out and SeaTow dragging their boat off. While I've been pulled over and gone through it with them, for the most part, I've not had an issue with them. They don't bother me at all. Maybe that's because I know, for a fact, through a conscious decision of my own, they are going to send me on my way when we're done. They aren't there to ruin anybody's fun. They are there to prevent the drunks from ruining others' fun. And, from the looks of it at Harmon Creek, where the overwhelming bulk of the lake patrol presence is concentrated, they aren't ruining anybody's fun, except those who've already ruined their own. And, to that, I say good riddance.

There's nothing stopping the buys from playing. Just because there is no set start time or planned route doesn't mean those who want to can't go ahead and race each other to a predetermined first stop. And they do. This is why I completely reject the notion that the true PokerRun format had anything to do with the incidents on Cumberland. I'd bet a dump truck full of doughnuts the wagers still hit the barrelhead before the engines fire up.

I'm fully of the opinion the changing of the format is precisely why the PokerRun feel is gone. There's nothing left of it except the chest pounding and the party.

my thoughts are maybe something like the drag and drive guys that have many events sick week is a big one i can see us all cruising to a port or card stop and everyone getting a chance to give it a speed blast in front of the town then cruise to the next stop as a close group take a pic of your gps top speed for each blast zone or something like that, sick week is hugely popular and a few are over 5000hp now yet they change tires and fuel and drive up to 100 miles or more to the next track we all agree we need a new format for a an old school,loud and proud thunder run!
