Loto 2004

Hi everyone-

This is going to be my first time going down to the LOTO this summer and I am wondering a few things. First what are the dates of the 2004 Shoot out. Also are thier beaches to pull up and spend the night or do you have to rent a hotel room? If you have to rent a hotel room are thier hotels that have docks to use? If you have any other useful information please let me know. Thanks
Don
Pray for a short winter and a long hot summer!

Shootout is the week-end before labor day no beaches that I have ever seen you can stay at hotels on the water or rent a condo alot of them have slips to rent for the night or you can rent a slip at the state park if you like to sleep in your boat get ready for the time of your life its unreal and hold on its a ruff ride have fun

Maritime_Eng 01-02-2004 09:19 PM

Do you have any information on the state park that rents slips? How rough can it be? I have a 33 formula SR1 that should be OK? Shouldn't it?

hawk40 01-04-2004 01:33 PM

There are a few campgrounds in the state park (Grand Glaize arm) I know at least one of them has a dock can't remember the name I think its Camp Hawthorne, need reservations early on a busy weekend. Public Beach #2 rec area has slips, don't know the phone number.

if your really adventures you can stay here all night

probably wont get much sleep though.

Maritime_Eng 01-04-2004 08:02 PM

I didn't know that you could stay at part cove all night. Do a lot of people end up spending the night there? Not to sound stupid, but I have never been to the ozarks were is party cove?

Steve_H 01-04-2004 08:09 PM

ive heard alot of people stay all night however ive never done it myself.

party cove is in the state park , a short distance from the grand glaize bridge.

raiseyourdrive 01-04-2004 08:49 PM

duck,
I would strongly recomend that you contact PMG(professional management group, it's on the web) and rent a condo, especially if you are travelling with others(it makes it pretty cheap and makes for a lot of comfort). I have stayed at four or five of the condo's (they have about twenty to choose from) but my favorite is the Ledges. It is right next door to Shooters and also near the Grand Glaize Bridge (you'll have to cross under it to get to party cove). As for people staying in party cove it is mostly the house boats and a few small cruisers, everyone else is out at the bars...there is four good ones to choose from. Best of luck and I hope this helps...Bring your aspirin, you'll need it.

duck,
Here is a map that will give you a rough idea where some bars are as well as party cove. The shootout is located in the main channel and runs in front of Shooters 21. Hope this helps.

Hawk 40-

Thanks for the map. This is a big help for me.

GEOO 02-20-2004 08:52 AM

I'm thinking of going to the Shoot-Out. What is the best way to stay at the Ozarks? Would you recommend a houseboat over night in the cove? Can a rented Houseboat dock in town or close by? Can I live the HB and take my boat to town? Or a hotel/condo? Thanks!!

Steve_H 02-20-2004 10:35 AM

i believe the houseboats are probably already booked up for the summer.

hawk40 02-20-2004 12:22 PM

GEOO,
The boats are probably booked but there are typically many cancellations. I have a friend that waited to this time last year to reserve a boat for Labor Day, they didn't have any available at the time but he was put on a waiting list and ended up getting the boat. Good luck

Steve_H 02-20-2004 12:46 PM

can those houseboats get an anchor set in the shootout channel?

hawk40 02-20-2004 02:28 PM

Lotoparty,
Good point probably not. The best option may be to rent a condo, probably cheaper too. PMG is pretty good at that www.pmg-lakeoftheozarks.com . Many of the condo's have dock space that can be rented also.

Thanks for the info.
Where is it more fun to stay. In town condo/hotel. or on a Houseboat in PC. Is it better at night in town, bars etc or at PC?
I will have a smaller boat to cruise around with.:chimp:

just add water 03-04-2004 10:34 PM

Party Cove really dies down in the evening, there isn't much to be seen at night. There are tons of bars on the lake that get hoppin at night.

Typically people will start to filter in to the cove at about 10:30 - 11:00am by 1:00 it's packed and then by 4:00-5:00 rush hour out of the cove begins as everyone gets ready to head to the bars. Then on Sunday you do it all over again.

We usually rent a condo for a couple of weeks a summer and then do the hotel for few long weekends. Both are good options and both usually have slips for rent.

Tempest38 03-24-2004 10:28 PM

Is it true there is a really long no wake zone you to get into the cove? What cities are the most popular for putting in and condos/rooms? What towns have the best night life nearby accessible by boat?
Thanks

MarkSmith 03-24-2004 11:02 PM

The Party Cove

The party cove is very long and the cove is all no wake because there may have 1000-1200 boats tied up together. When you get there, you will be glad the cove is no wake. The main channel is wide open. WOT

Boats flying past you over 100 mph is a frequent occurrance.

Put your boat in at the state park off of 54 just past the Grand Glaze bridge.

There are so many bars that you would not be able to go to them all but here are some: Topsiders, Shooters 21, Horny Toad, Salty Dog, Dock Knockers, and maybe 40+ others. Some of which hold 2000+ on a busy night.

Call PMG for a condo and a slip. The website is on this tread.
Mark

SummerObsession is planning a nice run from BackwaterJacks up to Big Dick's Halfway Inn on July 2nd. It will be the second annual "Mind if I Smoke" run but all are invited. The thread is in this same section. I believe there was a few runs up there last year with quite a turn out. Hope to see you there.
And of course lots of board members get together throught the summer, and I heard some board god man should be at the shoot-Out which I am sure would make for an impressive turn out.
