I agree, you need to try a different run :D Maybe you can drag GLH with you. Actually last year we did have a $hit load of OSO members. It was pretty cool. See you fella's in June :drink: |
Re: The Pirates Run - Upstate NY
This is just like when I raced grass drag sleds professionally. I wish all the clubs would get together and have there runs on different weekends. I would come to your's but it is on the same weekend as my clubs run.....

Me too. I planned on this one, but the 1000 Islands run is that weekend as is the one in western NY (Kilroy's). :( |
Re: The Pirates Run - Upstate NY
Hey ET,
Thanks for agreeing. In no way am I complaining but if everyone would just get together each event would have a much larger turn out and we could even could meet more people and have more runs during the summer..... |
Re: The Pirates Run - Upstate NY
It's real hard to try to find an open wknd, not only with other events but also a facility that is capable of accommodating our needs. Unfortunately, the Finger lakes has a pretty short season to accommodate all the events. This year more so then ever. Nascar, IRL, Vintage Wknd, Italian American Festival, Geneva Whale watch, two Major fishing Tournies, etc. etc. Now considering each of these events fall on a different wknd. , there goes 8 wknds. Now lets make sure we don't schedule the run on the same wknd as any other organized boating events, i.e June 1000 Islands Run, August 1000 run, NYC run, Buffalo Run, etc. etc. Now that leaves us with two avail weeks, the first wknd in January and the last wknd in October
We are obviously not happy with the conflicting events. We do however feel we are providing an outstanding event for the buck. Last year we had 60 very satisfied boaters. We have a great course layout (approx. 70 miles) on a lake that you can stretch your legs. After the run we have a speed run, Live entertainment, BBQ, Fireworks, a power tool auction (give away :p ) etc. etc. . The entry fee this year is $85 and $40 for additional card hands. We are trying to make the Sport of Poker running fun for everybody, big boats and small boats alike. Not everybody can spend $600 on entry fee's. The Pirates Run is only possible because we have a great bunch of people that have a true passion for boating. The owner of Showboat Motel basically gives us the keys to the facility and bends over backward to accommodate our club. I wish everybody could attend our run at least once. I know you would enjoy it. Remember, our club does not Profit a dime from this event. All of the proceeds are donated to the United Way and this year we have added Camp Good Days (a special place for a bunch a sick children). It is kind of neat when you can have a little fun and make a difference in somebodies life. Sorry to babble, I just wanted to let everybody know that the wknd. we currently use is definitely not our first choice rather, our only available option. |

Need-The-Speed,
I hope you did not take my post the wrong way. I just like to make as many Poker Runs as I can and when there is two on the same weekend it is upsetting to know instead on 60 boats there could be 120. YES that also has it's draw backs. Good Luck with your event! |
Re: The Pirates Run - Upstate NY
Thanks Kilroy
I didn't take offense. I just figured I would explain the logic to our madness :p Have fun. :drink: |
