Mercury wasn't using the 496 platform in 1997. When he posted about looking at it I think it was a HP500 carb based motor.

I would never buy a performance boat with bottom paint. It will be nearly impossible to resell. That boat also has a poorly redone rear seat and a drive that will probably not hold up to that kind...

The older Fountains were very solid boats. Maybe even a bit overbuilt. Prev owner said he once got caught...

Depends on the ProCharger model, right? The M1 on a 496HO is ADVERTISED at ~615HP, and several here on OSO have knocked that claim, suggesting it's more likely to be ~500HP or so....

Anything you look at 30' long with twins for under $50k will need another $50k put into it as soon as you get it in your garage. Your best bet imo would be a single engine outboard in the 24' - 27'...
