Powerboat P1 Adds Italy’s Largest Television Company To Global Race Network
Powerboat P1 has announced its newest broadcast partnership, adding RAI, Italy’s largest television broadcaster, which will deliver the Grand Prix of the Sea World Championship series to over 10 million homes.
Under the agreement, highlights of the 2009 season will appear on sports channel Rai Sport Piu, beginning in early May with the season premier Malta Grand Prix of the Sea. In addition to coverage of the Grand Prix series, the package will also include both preview and season recap programs. "We are delighted to have this partnership with Italy's state broadcaster,” said Powerboat P1 Chairman and CEO Asif Rangoonwala, “the appeal of our exciting and glamorous motorsport championship continues to gather momentum, and over the past few years we have seen sustained growth in both the worldwide TV audience figures and the number of dedicated P1 broadcasts. With many Italian teams taking part in the World Championship, increased visibility from this coverage will provide a welcome boost for their sponsors and commercial partners." This year, P1 breaks new ground by hosting races in Scandinavia and Asia for the first time, with events in Gothenburg, Sweden and Istanbul, Turkey. Powerboat P1 launches its 2009 season the weekend of May 8-10 in the Mediterranean island nation of Malta, which will be hosting its sixth Grand Prix of the Sea, and the World Championship will then move on to Turkey, Sweden, Italy and the island Kingdom of Bahrain over the next six months.
