I/O to Outboard Conversion on a 33

Anyone ever do a conversion from I/O to outboards on a 33 PP CC? Any ideas on what it would cost not including the cost of the engines?

NKOSI,
How is it ging? Hope the new year is treating you well. It would be cheaper to buy the new 35 Latitude in the long run.

Why would you want to do that? 33 with I/O's is a sweet ride

HIGH LIFE 01-31-2010 04:36 PM

nkosi, I converted a MAGNUM 27'... filled in transom and installed 3 knees ( myself) , bracket app. $i,800, IMCO steering $3,800, Gaffrig controls $750, K-planes used $1000 , motors are 300X's. "HIGH LIFE"

Very interesting idea I have thought about that myself!! Just getting to the point big blocks are just to much money to run the cops hate the load noise and the gph is way better with outboards. I used to be dead set against the weedwackers now if I buy another boat thats what I'm getting!!!

Thanks High Life. I got a quote of 12k-14k including removal of the i/o's, bracket, fiberglass work and rigging. Adding steering and the outboards means its a pretty costly undertaking. Still giving it some thought.

32 Active, that's my motivation also. Plus you get a lot more room in the boat.

Allstar, all is well. What are you guys asking for that Latitude now? Gone down any?

cowisl 02-01-2010 08:49 AM

There is a sweet 33 for sale with outboards with the extended cockpit in the classifieds

Noksi,
Things are good with us as well. We are willing to listen to offers on the White boat. In addition, not sure if you are aware of it or not but we have a Black hull with Tan interior currently listed on Ebay. Check it our if you get a chance. I have attached the link. Send me a PM if I can be of further assistance.

nkosi,
you will gain some room in the stern but I don't think it will be a lot. The seat in the o/b powered boat seems just slightly smaller than the engine box in the i/o version, either one works as a seat.

nkosi 02-01-2010 08:46 PM

Thanks sea rat. Good point but not sure if I would feel comfortable with passengers sitting on the engine box going 60 mph..the rear seat in o/b version is lower and more secure.

I would think you could do it by selling your inboard stuff and paying for the bracket and glass work. New and used brackets are everywhere for less than 2000.00 . The angle on your transom is 17degrees so remember that when shopping for one,(armstrong and stainless marine are the better ones). 3000 in glass work to move the seat and knee the transom and close it in. Remember now your dash needs to be reworked to accept the o/b gauges, and a couple of other rigging problems that you need to take care of. Powerplays 33's open fish boats with twin o/b's have a hard time breaking the 70 mph mark.

allstarmarine 02-02-2010 01:38 PM

NKOSI,
I have a deal for you. The price you were quoted on the white boat remains the same and the February ALLSTAR Marine stimulus package for you which is we will split the shipping cost for you. Now that is a deal.

The best a 33 sport deck with 300's ran was 72

Allstar,

Still high for me. Thanks though.

Northern Offshore,

Thanks for the input.

nkosi, Where are you located ? What motors are you thinking of using ? How do you intend to use your boat ? On my boat I left the engine room as is, I call it my garage, plenty of storage room. I installed 2-32 gal. gas tanks under a floor. I'll try to post pictures. Michael "HIGH LIFE"
