Removing Armrests?
I bought some new cupholders to replace the tiny, sun faded original ones. Of course they are too big for the stock holes so I need to use a jigsaw or holesaw to make them fit.
Has anyone removed the rear armrests and passenger side bolster armrest? If so how did you do it, and is it very difficult? Thanks. |
I'm ready to do the same to mine. Just cut the hole and vaccum up the dust...
|
Take the step plate off the top & there is a hole underneath it. Then you can reach the 4 bolts.

I'm just going to take them off and take them to a buddy's to cut with a jig saw. But now I'm fearing the whole assembly comes off, and the "wall" will still be next to the cupholder...... |

What would you cut with? I don't have clearance to get anything in there for a hole saw (or desire to drop $50 on a whole saw), and definitely no clearance for a jig saw.

Try a dremal there is plenty of room I just did it a month ago. For the front I just pealed back the vinyl & used a dremal it worked great.
Looks like I'm not the only person sick of the tiny/yellow stock plastic ones. If I can just find vents that fit I'll be looking a lot better this summer. I need to call performance marine as I've been told they can get them, but does anyone else know a source? (new wheel, new cupholders, new vents, I'm upgrading on the cheap.:grinser010:) |

I had thought of that but thought it might take forever!

I need to find nicer vents already went to an isotta wheel & did the cupholders
I just went with this Grant wheel, really liked it for the money. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/GRT-1461/?rtype=10 An Isotta was my first choice, which did you get? Cowisl got new vents at performance marine in FL, I'be been meaning to call them. Are you going to do the throttles, that is one thing I really want but they are spendy....probably next summer. |

Haha, great minds think alike! You got your 28 last summer too didn't you? We're on the same plan here.

I"ll call performance marine next week to order a set. Have you been using it alot this year? I can"t believe how good it is in rough water. |
That must look great, can't wait to see a pic.
I've been out every weekend pretty much, and it definitely handles some rougher water well for a 28. It's also very easy to drive, gets on plane easy, etc.... I've been real happy. Hopefully I'll remember and call performance marine tomorrow and see what the deal is on the vents. |

Good at leastyou have been lucky with it. I had to redo both motors & 1 transom assembly but now everything is new
I think I'm going to try sanding down a little and painting blue my vents this weekend. If it works it'll look cool, if it sucks I'll get new. I think I might have found the replacement vent, does this look like it's it? http://www.backtoboating.com/Scripts...?idproduct=285 |

Oh man that is rough. Is yours BBC's or the 350's? Where did it come from, I don't remember seeing it when I was looking last year. I rolled the dice on mine (it was a repo that a dealer had, no history) and so far I've been pleased. Changed the valvesprings right after I got it and everything else has been regular maintenance.

If your compass is a yellowing eye-sore like mine you could order one of these. http://www.livorsi.com/catalog/closeout.htm#compass
I just got one, seemed like a heck of a deal for a trick piece. |

I just installed a new dash panel today (have dash and trim plates if anyone needs them). I bought my still uninstalled cupholders from Eddie Marine, Polished aluminum and not a bad deal. I also installed new vents this spring. I have the part #'s andwill post them tomorrow. If you want to paint your vents let me know. I can match any color and am close to you. I work at Autometric in Royal Oak...

Btw pulling the vinly back and using a dremel is a great idea! Hopefully get mine done soon. You should look into doing the pokkerrun in Aug. $100.00pp and a great time...

I just dremeled my cupholder holes and put in the polished metal ones yesterday, made a big difference, especially for $36 bucks for the 3 of them. I'm pretty sure the attwood vents I posted above are the right ones, but I just sprayed mine with a dark blue plastic paint......if it doesn't last I'll buy some new ones. Changing from rotten yellow to the blue made a huge difference! Do you guys do work on vette's, if so I need to talk to you about a chip in my hood.:drink: |

I'm going to make plates as on the 38's, never liked how people stepped on the armrests. The older wood ones broke easily.

In my garage. .... , I plan on getting apiece of starboard, maybe 3/16 or 1/4 and cutting with a hole saw for the center. Some router grooves like powerplay does and finish sand the edges. The screws might need a spacer under the plastic so it won't crush the vinyl, down too far.Aluminum would get hot and damage the vinyl. I will post what I made in a couple weeks when I get that far.I try to make a lot of parts and stuff myself, everything is so expensive now. Just got to paint the swim platform I made first. I like the auto meter carbon fiber gauges over the L or g brand.
