Who has the molds for these? Can they still be built?

allstarmarine 02-25-2014 08:31 PM

Tom Mason at Powerplay Powerboats has the molds for this boat. Check them out at powerplaypowerboats.us

This boat will need a lot of coin to be pumped into her. It could be a really nice boat if you could buy it right.

hogie roll 02-26-2014 01:31 PM

What do they run with 525s?

cowisl 02-27-2014 08:17 AM

about 80 in the real world

AJ POWERPLAY 02-27-2014 11:54 AM

Those are 650's Keith... Will run probably closer to 90

Keytime 02-27-2014 12:10 PM

I would really be curious to see what a full objective quality survey would say about the condition of this hull. Doesn't appear that it's really been done.

AJ POWERPLAY 02-27-2014 12:28 PM

I was told by rhino 660 it was taken down and built back up after sinking. You're not going to hurt the hull, just need to make sure the re-rigging and interior are up to snuff. Maybe tommy could hook u up w a door. If I had the money I'd buy it... Ain't scared, lol

Gotta think that a good glass guy could build one off an existing door, too. And there are a few of them out there.

Rigging by Brad is a selling point.

How did it sink?

Left in the water, no shore power. A/C line broke, batteries couldn't keep it afloat....Submerged up to the fairing for about 30 hours in Singer Island, FL.

The original owner looked at it when it was at National Liquidators.....He even consulted Danny Weinstein about bringing it back to life. One of the biggest issues was water in the foam around the fuel tank. Salt water soaked foam encasing an aluminum tank is going to be a problem. All wiring/interior soft goods were going to need to be replaced in addition to the power/electronics/gauges. The 525's had 400 hours+ when the boat first sold in 2007ish so after 2 more owners they had to have 600+/- hours so at that point why not re-rig with new stuff. The math was not adding up.....Another 38 PP owner was looking at keeping the boat as an east coast toy, he had perfect low hour 525/XR's to bolt in (he upgraded his west coast 38 PP to 700sci's). Even having the power/drives available the math was still adding up too quickly and you still needed a trailer!

I have driven this boat with the original owner, it was a lot of fun....low 80's was top end with 525's. If that hull is still waterlogged, I suspect it won't break 80 even with the bigger power.

So, to properly assess the boat, the floor would have to be pulled and the foam inspected?

cowisl 03-04-2014 07:49 AM

I think you can see the fuel tanks if you take up the first step going into the cabin. I will confirm.

cowisl 03-04-2014 07:50 AM

There are also access hatches in the bilge.

This boat belongs to a friend of mine down on Grand Lake in Grove,OK. He as put a pile of money into it in alot of the right places in getin it back to where she is today.. I have rode in the boat the past 2 summers on the lake after my late buddy Brad Smith SMITH POWER went thru alot of it and fixt alot of things on it including the new 650HP SMITH POWER motors that he built for it. Hate to see this cool boat go, would like to see him finish all the cosmetics on it and enjoy it for awhile cause the ole boat is very mechanical sound and fun to be out on the lake in. But oh well.
