performance question

I don't know if there are any out there with big power or not. Realistically how would an early 33 perform with around 900 a side. How fast? how much would you have to change to make it feasible? Shorties, blueprint ect? With the straight bottom is it even worth putting that type of power in one? Would it handle well with that type of power? Thanks

SkaterMike82 06-14-2016 10:31 AM

This one had 1000's plus per sides with #5's and ran awesome. North of 100mph.

I guess that is kind of what I was asking. And I promise I know they are completely different boats. But if you put staggered 1000 in a 35-42 fountain its what 130+ maybe. same with a cig with steps maybe. Would you get enough performance to make it worth spending the money on the power. I know sometimes you just reach the maximum potential of the hull no matter the power. I was just curious thought it would be good conversation.

SkaterMike82 06-14-2016 01:41 PM

Is it worth it IMO yes. Can the hull handle it yes. Will you be able to cruise at 90 mph without having to be stressing the motors in 3-4 footers yes. Is it going to run 130+ no. But will run close to 110 mph depending on prop, setup ext. Are you ever going to get the money you put into no but than again we never do no matter which boat it is. I would just do it for the peace of mind of being able to cruise at 90+ mph without stressing the motors (obviously good built motors) in 3-4's. Remember the average boat now days cruises between 90-100 mph. Keep in mind that at the end of the day, these Powerplay are old technology but with that being said, awesome rough water boats that run and handle bigger then their actual size.

No reason not to put 900 per side in them :flag:
Like Mike said, would probably run 110 or so, mine runs 84 with 525's in fresh water. Almost another 400hp per side would be awesome. Hull will definitely handle it, and you won't need a blueprint on anything coming out of the Powerplay factory from Danny, I can guarantee you that

IMO you don't need no stinking steps. Go for it.

Yea I was curios if there had been many over the 100 mark and how they did. I know when I had No Agenda it ran 92 in cool conditions. High 80's anytime. I think a 100mph 33 would be pretty damn awesome.

Keytime 06-15-2016 12:06 PM

Pedal Pusher will be back on the water soon. Not 1000 hp, but supposed to do 100.

Ozzy here had a 100+ PP years back. Don't remember the HP. Thing was ripping, ran it on the east end of LI.

ActiveFun 06-29-2016 11:52 AM

I believe Ozzie had 850 per side and Imco shorties.

Pedal Pusher hit the water last week for a short shake down cruise and another today. 900's per side will certainly get you past 100, 800's would do it also... Just got to figure out what you're going to connect that to. Bravos would seem like high maintenance. Six's would be an expensive upgrade.

How's she running?

AJ POWERPLAY 07-11-2016 09:55 AM

I run bravos with 525s and just change the gear lube twice a year. 5 seasons with zero issues

Awesome can't wait to see how the numbers turn out on it for you guys. I know #6 would be well out of my personal budget lol.

I never hurt one of my bravos but the motors were only around 625 or so. I think the guys who bought broke one though. I think the bravos were safe when I had it because the water never gets that bad. The boat very rarely left and reentered the water.

That sounds like a great package, but it won't get ya triple digits in a 33 Powerplay. Would work real well in a 30' cat but I don't think that's what to OP is after.

JROMY's PP with the same power ran 89 with sporty shorties spinning 32s.

Yes -2 lowers would definitely help my speed and he also had the ITS boxes. Unfortunately, running the great lakes having standard lowers helps me run faster in bigger water than shorties would. Catch 22 for sure. He was also in salt I believe. I'd love to get 89 out of it!!

Yeah...we ran them in Long Island Sound, it was a sweet ride.

Just for comparison, Dan (OL) ran about 91-92 (right Dan?) in his Gladiator with the same power and sporty's too if I recall properly.
