Ran the 290 yesterday...
Took our new boat out for the maiden run yesterday. Because our lives are so stress-free, we decided that:
As it turned out, the boat ran like a champ, launching was no problem, and I looked like a pro backing her into the slip - got to love twins! One thing I noticed, that boat has a HUGE amount of bowrise, you really need to drop the tabs. Looks like a set of those Victory tabs just moved up on my shopping list. We really didn't run her hard, not with the kids on board, but my daughter LOVED it. The boy was not so sure... he hated his life jacket. Going to have to do some shopping in that area. |
Re: Ran the 290 yesterday...
Dockrocker,
I seen you coming out of Metro, the boat looked great....Rick |
Re: Ran the 290 yesterday...
try a set of 4 blades 1st, that will keep the bow down.

Re: Ran the 290 yesterday...
Dockrocker,
My 300 Revenge has a bunch of bow-rise also. I have to start out with the tabs all the way down or the props start to cavitate(?) Cavitate might be the wrong term here, they seem like they are not getting a good "bite" of water. But with the tabs down it comes on plane pretty quick. |
Re: Ran the 290 yesterday...
Rick I thought that was you. We never even made it in to Metro, I turned around in the channel - the little guy was not a happy camper. We just need to break him in slowly, I think.

Re: Ran the 290 yesterday...
I jump up on plane with my tabs down, gets up pretty quick.

I also would start with my tabs down, but had a problem one time and they did not work for a month so I was able to set them even with the bottom of the boat (like the hull was longer) and that worked very well, as a matter of fact I just left them there after I fixed the problem. only used them in the big stuff with my daughter. By the way I am going to be in the same boat (with children within the next two months) we have a two year old daughter and a baby boy do in July. :D Let me know how the summer goes will ya :D Glad to hear trailering was not bad it is defenatly something to know incase you want to travel :drink: You should come down to LOTO for the shootout this year, there will be alot of us there. |
Re: Ran the 290 yesterday...
Doc - QWST showed me the same on my 97 enticer. Trim all the way down, tabs level, pops up very nicely with the 3 blade. I was having trouble with slippage even with just a few taps of trim. All the way down = no problem.

Re: Ran the 290 yesterday...
Oh, and the speedo doesn't work (surprise!) - a GPS speedo is definitely on my list. In fact, I'd like to get rid of all the Faria gauges.

Re: Ran the 290 yesterday...
I have a ditigal GPS speedo.Worth every penny. You can get the trim set perfectly to the tenth mph.BOB

Re: Ran the 290 yesterday...
Whats a GPS speedo run $$$$$$$??
|
Re: Ran the 290 yesterday...
About $400, I believe. I'd like to re-do the dash on my boat in the winter and want to put a GPS speedo in, but that's a lot of cabbage. Check Trick Marine www.trickmarine.net, I think Fred sells them.

Re: Ran the 290 yesterday...
I'd have a hard time dropping that kind of jack, when I can pick up a handheld for $100. Sure it's not so pretty to look at but what the hey it's only good a couple time for clocking true top end. After that unless your making mods I can pretty much dial it in based on the tach.
|
Re: Ran the 290 yesterday...
I'm planning to put a chartplotter in the dash in any case, so I'm thinking I really wont need a speedo at all.
|
Re: Ran the 290 yesterday...
Is there enough room in the dash on a 29 for that? Don't they run about 5"x6" ?
|
Re: Ran the 290 yesterday...
I haven't done any real measuring at this point. Just kind of kicking around some ideas - I'm not real happy with the way the dash is laid out, and since it is pretty worn I may just redo the whole thing...

Re: Ran the 290 yesterday...
Anyone run faster than 70mph. I have a 1999 enticer 29 people tell me that this boat does not like speeds over 70 mph it is hard to control. I want to super charge mine (7.4 mpi 310 twins bravo 1's with 25 pitch props). Any one have this problem with higher speeds? Thanks Paxtonsc

Re: Ran the 290 yesterday...
I just sold a 2000 29 with 7.4 B-1 23 pitch. Best I ever ran was 66.7 and mine was a bit faster than my firends. 70 would be hard to get with that combo......
