Transom Shower Question
The 26 Legend I just purchased has a transom shower. The dealer didn't tell me anything about other than to fill the tank with water. I filled the tank and hit the power switch on the dash and I can hear the pump run. When I push the on button on the shower head water comes out for a very short period than stops. I then hear the motor almost sound like its running dry. After it sat a few minutes in the off position it did the same thing. Is there maybe some type of winterizing valve somewhere?? I've never had a transom shower before so I'm not sure what to look for.
Thanks Brian |
Re: Transom Shower Question
My fresh water system does not have a winterizing valve. Sounds like you have a pump problem.

Re: Transom Shower Question
Any idea of how to get to the pump? And location?

Re: Transom Shower Question
The pump may need to be primed if it hasnt been used in a long time. Take the shower head off and back fill the hose and try it. An old Donzi I had yrs ago did this in the sink in the cabin until I did what I described.

Re: Transom Shower Question
The pumps are diaphragm style and are supposed to be self priming, but like most pumps they push better than they suck. I would be a small hole in the diaphragm has developed. The rebuild kits are cheap and available at most large marine stores (BoatUS/West etc). Easy to do...can't help you where the pump is located though....look by the tank though that is where I would expect.

Re: Transom Shower Question
Thanks guys for the help. I located the pump and the problem. There was a pile of plastic shavings plugging the inlet line just as it entered the pump. Have the feeling no ones ever used the transom shower before. Because this looks to be shavings from when the thing was installed from the factory.
