PQ HELP
HELLO, I WAS LOOKING FOR SOME INPUT! i now have a 32' SUNSATION THAT I LOVE BUT IT IS LACKING IN ROOM FOR THE FAMILY AND OVERNIGHT CAPABILITIES. I AM LOOKING AT A 38' AVENGER TOTALLY LOADED & 500EFI'S. NOBODY IN MY AREA(UPPER CHESAPEAKE BAY) THAT I KNOW OF IS RUNNING A PQ. CAN ANYBODY OFFER AN OPINION WEATHER IT BE GOOD OR BAD?....THANK YOU!
|
Go for it. It is one awesome boat.
Check some video: http://207.55.218.179/cgidir/ubbcgi/...&f=43&t=000156  |
What year? some of the early models 1998 - 1999 had some hull problems - Bottom had excessive hook ect... If it is not one of those go for it. This is the boat I chose over some other "brand names". Mainly because I do have a family and want the best of both worlds comfort and acceptable speed. The one you speak of with 500EFI's would most likely do 80+-.
I bought mine used and there is a few for sale out there, on this board and on boat trader. There is a nice one or so I am told for sale http://207.55.218.179/cgi-bin/classi...uery=retrieval Check out my home page for more picts ect. (click on little house at top of message). Besides with all the PQ bashing some of the sunsation owners have been doing on this board It would be great to see you move "up" Ray [ [ 01-15-2002: Message edited by: Raypanic ] |
TTREMELLEN,
Give Tim a call at Riverview 815-663-1000. I think he has a new 2001 38 with 500’s. With the 02's coming out you'll probably get a great deal. Dan |
THANKX FOR ALL THE INFO AND VIDEO'S. THE BOAT I'M LOOKING AT IS A 2000. AND FAMILY COMFORT IS THE NAME OF THE GAME, A LITTLE SPEED FOR ME IS JUST A PLUS! I LIVE IN PA ANE THE BOAT IS IN FLORIDA, MIGHT TAKE AN EXTRA DAY WHILE GOING TO THE MIAMI SHOW.
|
TTREMELLEN, Give Ducky's boats a call at 717 944 4232. They are in Middletown, Pa. I have bought four boats from them so far and have received incredible deals and service. Tom was nice enough to give me a ride in the 38 Powerquest and it ate up the bay. Great boat . Denny

Yeah, I bought my new 34 PQ from Duckys as well. It was 15K cheaper than any other dealer.
They are PQ's #1 or #2 dealer, so maybe they get a volume discount and pass it on. The deals were so good, there are now 3 new 340's and a new 280 in Va Beach now, all from Ducky's. So far, I love my new 34. (11 hours) :) |
OK, I TRIED DUCK'Y AND RIVERVIEW, AS WELL AS EVERY WEB SITE I COULD FIND. I THINK I NARROWED MY DECISION DOWN TO TWO BOATS. THERE IS A 2000 AVENGER TOTALLY LOADED WITH HP500EFI'S & 39 HOURS AND DUCKY'S HAS A 2001 AVENGER WITH MOST OPTIONS AND 496HO'S AND ONLY A FEW HOURS.THE 2000 IS ABOUT 23K CHEAPER BUT BOTH ARE VERY NICE. THE 00 IS IN FLORIDA ( ABOUT 1000 MILES ) DUCK'Y IS 20 MILES. BOTH WORKING IN A GOOD TRADE FOR MY BOAT. ANY INPUT?
|
TTR,
Before you buy, contact Mr. Robert Nelems @ Nelems Marine. He is a regular on OSO and a very nice man to deal with. He has a closeout special on a nice 01 380 Avenger with hp500efi's, trailer etc. You can see some pictures buy clicking here The contact information for him is listed on there as well. Make sure you call or e-mail him for "buying price". Tell him hp500efi sent ya ;) Jeff |
What are the options on each boat? Is top speed more important than amenities?
Personally I would opt for the newer boat. It will be better for you at resale time. Plus most people looking for that type of boat will be looking for amenities. I have seen that boat that Duckys has, it nice. My friend was thinking about buying it, but couldn't find a place to keep a boat that big, so he opted for the 340. Duckys WANTS to sell that boat bad. My freind got an incredible deal on it. Are you talking with Tom Jr? [ 01-19-2002: Message edited by: BillR ] |
THE 2000 IS TOTALLY LOADED, THESE ARE THE OPTIONS THAT I LIKE OVER DUCKY'S....500EFI' HOT WATER AND SHOWER ( TOM AT DUCKY'S SAID HE COULD INSTALL THESE FOR ME ), TRANSOM SHOWER & POWER BOLSTERS. I'M NOT IN LOVE WITH EITHER PAINT JOB BUT THE 2000'S COULD BE CHANGED MUCH EASIER. BOTH BOATS HAVE HEAT/AC, BRAVO'S, MICROWAVE, FRIDGE,CD, TV/VCR, VACUFLUSH W/HOLDING, K-PLANES, TILT WHEEL...ETC.
|
HP500EFI, THANKX FOR THE TIP BUT NELEMS WASN'T INTERESTED IN A TRADE AS NEW AS MINE.
|
ttremellen,
I have a 2000 380 Avenger, similar to what you're looking at, with the HP 500 EFI's( which, by the way all run rich!)it runs 78 mph on GPS with all my stuff on board and full fuel load, this is with 28" pitch props, which i think I'm going to stick with, since I run in a lot of rough water, and the couple extra mph that 30's may provide aren't worth the loss in holeshot. The 496 HO's are nice because they are freshwater cooled instead of raw water cooling like the HP's(easier to winterize, more constant engine temps), but I don't know much about 'em. I love mine, great ride, and very comfortable for overnighting. Let me know if I can be of any help,or you just want some input Paul (231)796-1316 |
THANK YOU FOR THE INPUT! IS ANYBODY RUNNING THE 496'S? I'M AN OLD SCHOOL GUY WHEN A BIG BLOCK WAS A BIG BLOCK NOT A BLOCK NAMED AFTER A STAR TREK SERIES!!!!!!!!! :D HOW MUCH OF A DIFFERENCE COULD 90HP BE, I DON'T REALLY RUN HARD TOO OFTEN, BUT I DO LIKE HOLE SHOTS.
|
I've got approx. 50 hrs on them in my 340. I would think you'd see a 4-6 mph top end difference w/500EFI's. Would think you'd be 72-75 w/496HO's which is nothing to sneeze at in that size hull.
Engines have a great torque curve. |
We have a 2001 Avenger w/ 496's. Top speeds 73-76 GPS depending on water..... Chesapeake Bay, Potomac River or Florida Keys. We also got our boat thru Ducky's. Very nice people and they gave us a VERY GOOD deal. Hey they even sent us a Christmas card this year :) The captain is going to do some tweeking soon. Labbed props, ect. We just put it back in hibernation after a trip down south. Winter is very depressing :( We love our boat!!!
|
DO YOU MIND IF I ASK WHAT OPTIONS YOU HAVE AND THE DEAL YOU MADE? E-MAIL WOULD BE OK IF PRIVACY IS AN ISSUE!
|
I bought mine through Ducky's and was pleased with the deal but service and attention to detail is beyond words (in a BAD way)! I have never dealt with this poor of customer service and find myself having to call and follow-up on them far more than I would expect considering the cost of my purchase. I would recommend that you try and find someone else to buy the boat from!!
   |
Troy...I think your computer is broken..it only prints capital letters :D :D
Had a PQ before the cat...go for it. They had a nice 380 at the Cleveland show and a nice price and great graphics |
there...is that better? as soon as i heard my computer may be broken i called a teckie, he only charged my 179.95 for a house call and now it's fixed, no more capitals. :D :D
[ 01-28-2002: Message edited by: TTREMELLEN ] |
Jim.... Didn't you sell that cat yet? What PQ did you have? Look I think I got the capital thing down, but it took my 5 times longer to post. :D
|
Also, if dealing with Ducky's just be sure you want the boat before you put down a deposit. We learned the hard way, after being pressured into putting a down payment of $2000.00, "the boat may sell if you don't", yada yada. Well, we changed our mind, they wouldn't return deposit. We had to hire a lawyer, lets just say that was a expensive lesson learned.
This was over four years ago though, so maybe it was a one time thing... |
DON'T DEAL WITH DUCKY'S!!! They are very nice BUT they do NOT support their buyers after the sale is complete. TRUST ME!
There are three other buyers from them in my area and we have all had some issues with them. AVOID, AVOID, AVOID. That's my advice. |
NOT THAT I DON'T APPRECIATE ADVICE, BUT I MADE A VERY LOW OFFER ON A BOAT THAT HAS EVERY THING I WANT AND THEY NEED TO SELL. I TALKED TO PQ AND THEY ASSURED ME IF DUCKY'S DIDN'T STAND UP IN A SITUATION THEY WOULD. BESIDES THAT THERE ARE NO OTHER DEALERS ANYWHERE CLOSE OR ANY THAT HAVE THE BOAT I WANT. I AM A BIT SCARED BUT NOT MANY CHOICES.
|
Tell us about the boat you have an offer in? HO's or 500EFI's
|
You'll be OK.
Duckys has been OK with me. A little slow to respond, but overall they're ok. |
THE BOAT IS A 2001 AVENGER W/496'S. LATHAM STEERING, K PLANES, COMPETITION PACKAGE, HEAT/AC, TV/VCR/ WEEKEND PACKAGE, BIMMINI TOP, PRESSURE WATER, TRANSOM SHOWER, AND INDY GRAPHICS. NO HOT WATER BUT THEY ARE ADDING THAT AND A SHOWER. IT'S SITTING ON AN ALUMINUM TRAILER. VERY NICE BOAT AND KEEPS THE WIFE HAPPY....NOT QUITE A CRUISER BUT IT'LL DO SHE SAYS. ABOUT THE ONLY THING NOT IN IT IS POWER BOLSTER, AND THAT'S NOT A BIG DEAL TO ME! THANKS FOR SOME POSSITIVE INPUT ON DUCKY'S. I DON'T INTEND TO USE THEM EXCEPT FOR WARRANTY WORK. EXTREME OFFSHORE IN HAVRE'DE GRACE MD WILL BE DOING ALL SERVICE WORK.
|
TTREMELLEN - you have mail.
|
TTREMELLON
BE Careful!!!! That's all I can tell you. The people at Ducky's are VERY nice but I am not confident that they conduct business in the most ethical manner. If you want more details email me. |
Check out J+J Marine the're a Powerquest dealer in Ohio. I was just at the Cleveland boat show and they have a 02 38Avenger with HP500's loaded up with all the good stuff.
|
I'LL GIVE EM A TRY! THANKX FOR THE TIP.
