head on 38

The head on my 38 will not pump water, but it will drain out. I think it pulls water from the lake, it is not a vac-u-flush but rather a "pump" stlye that you pump it for wet or dry bole. It worked great untill the last time we went out. I tried it yesterday and nothing, so who has the cure? Im at a loss, nothing seems to be blocking the hole right under the head on the hull, Im assuming that is where the water is drawn up from. When you work the pump it feels as if there is some pressure there, not like a seal is blown and cant pull the water up. Dont know what else to tell ya, any help is much appericated :D

Thanks in advance.

Re: head on 38

All I can think of is the pump lost a seal on the intake side. In my past boats as the pump ages it seems to take more effort to get the pump to pull in water.
Relative to the location of the inlet are you sure it is under the head. In both my two PQ's the intake was on the starboard side in the enginge bay just ahead og the starboard motor. The intake for the air was near the area you describe but closer to the middle of the hull bottom. Both have petcocks to shut thm off, perhaps yours has been closed?

I did not close any of the petcocks, and Im really at a loss as what to do next..... Are all the seals on the head it self? It was working great and just stoped working, not like a seal would just go bad over night. I will check all petcocks this weekend and see what gives with them.

What did you do on you other boats when you had the issues?

Mine did the same thing it would take about 100 fast pumps to get the flush water once it lost prime. I tried a few things and gave up. Bought an electric head and now we can have a trouble free pee

One other thing I reported in the past was the tank pressurizing because they never vented it  Had to tap the vent on top of the tank and run it to the trap the correct way.

I just put up with it as I could always get water if I pumped lomg enough and once I got water it was fine till it sat for a few days. One thing I did with my current 38 last fall was to pour a half gallon of veg oil down the bowl and pump it through. Haven't had it out yet this year to see if that did anything.
