PQ 280 SC - Opinions Please

I was searching for Formula 280s when I came across a used 2004 PQ 280 SC for sale at what seems like a reasonable price (at least compared Formulas). The boat looks to be very well equiped, with twin 496 HOs. I am guessing the reasonable price is due to the time of year, and the fact that PQ is no longer in business.

Any input on this model, as well as any thoughts on overall PQ quality in recent years, will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

We looked at them. Seem like a nice boat, though I have no idea how they ride, and I'd use the fact that PQ is not in business to really hammer them on the price ;)

Be very careful with that boat/engine combo. I used to work for a Powerquest dealer and we sold the very first 280sc with HOs....pm me if you want details.

Is this the one at Grand Sports Center? I took a quick look at it last week. Needs a little cleaning, but looked pretty nice. However, I did not look at it very closely.

If this is not the boat, Grand Sports Center has a used 28 at their Grand Avenue location.

Mark Miller is great to work with!!!!

Yes, it is the one at GSC.

Does anyone know if this hull is unique to this boat? With 21 deadrise, and no vents, I am guessing that it is not the same hull as any of the other models.

GSC had this boat at a show in Peoria a couple years ago and the cockpit vinyl was all yellowed. So, what's the big secret on this boat with HO's?

Edit - it may have been Riverview's boat, not GSC's. In any case, check out the vinyl closely for yellowing.

I know this is an old thread but if someone in the "know" about the warnings of the 496 280 boats could elaborate that would be great!

Guys, I think you may be talking about the boat I have now. It has GSC stickers on the swim platform. The previous owner bought the boat from them. Knock on wood, we've owned it for two years and love the boat. I too would like to know what the issue is with the 496HO engines as we've had no issues as of yet. Should I be worried? Only complaint I had was the boat is a$$ heavy due to the weight of the engines. I threw about 300 lbs of sand bags under the bow cushions in the cabin which made a huge difference. The cockpit cushions are not yellowed at all. Maybe they were, but not anymore.

I don't know but I would like to know as well the only thing I could think of is the weight to length rate. I have 27 laser with twin 350 mags and its just perfict.
