Supercharge the 270 laser!?
 

Currently most of you know the boat is got a built 454 514hp engine.. wondering if adding a wippple charger would give me any more top end speed or if 65mph on GPS is it for the 270 laser.

Yes I'm sure it would, probably anywhere from 7-15 mph depending on the unit you go with. Do you have hyd. steering?? you better have that!!

There was a dealer in Ohio (J&J Marine) that put a procharger on a 260 bowrider that ran upper 70's. I don't remember if it was a 454 mag or 502 mag. I don't know how the boat handled or how much prop swapping that had to be done. Dan Jenkins used to be the owner of J&J, don't know if he still is, but perhaps you could contact him and maybe get a little more info.I know a 260 and 270 are different creatures, but they do have some similarities.

Yeah, that is done about 3 years ago after the engine upgrades. It's IMCO rigged.

Seems to me that you ought to be seeing more than 65 mph with 500+ hp. I saw that regularly - on GPS - in my 280 and that was with a bone stock 502 Mag and a factory prop (no lab finish).

Yes that does not seem right to me either I've got my 454 mag to a top speed of 62 on GPS with stock prop with the right condition's

On a 270 or 280? And on GPS or speedo? I had a 98 270 with a 454 mag and it never got close to 62. It got close on the speedo but not on GPS.

my best speed was 62 on gps on perfect condition's most of the time 60 and speedo read's 66-67 it's about 5 mph difference between gps and speedo. And that is on a 97 270 with 385hp 454 mag

High 50s, 57-58 on most days. It had to be the perfect day to hit 60 or 61. Lots of folks will post the best ever speed they got, but usually that is not the speed they typically get on the average summer day loaded with the average stuff on their boat.

My current boat went 93 GPS on one test, but if you ask me what to expect daily from it, I'd tell you 86 or 88.
