Purple Carpet

O.k. I'm getting ready to have a new cockpit carpet made. I currently have the standard PQ gray. I'm looking at the better grade in purple. Looks great but I'm a little concerned with heat and fade. Any comments from you guys with the darker color's??? Good or bad... Or should I just stay with the gray?

PWRQWST 05-18-2007 08:05 AM

It's a little hotter but worth it for the color. Mine is also purple.

Rich.

Mine's also purple, looks fine, no fading...

dockrocker 05-18-2007 10:23 PM

Had purple on my 99 280, no problems. Now have grey on the '96 290. Have you priced it yet? The factory quoted me over $700 for new carpet in the 290 - was thinking about going red to match the graphics. When I got the quote, the grey carpet looked a whole lot better! :D

I stopped by Custom Marine Carpets in Niles the other day and was quoted around $400 for the better quality carpet with the Powerquest Logo engraved into it. They can also do an inlay ,meaning the PQ could be set in a different color carpet. This carpet blows the stock stuff away. He also had the 20oz but I didn't get a price on that. It's the same carpet with the clear rubber backing with the ribs.

That seems a fair price, they quoted me about $ 550 for my avenger which has a little longer cockpit.

Well, looks like I'll go with the purple. I'll post a pick when I get it. The PQ logo will be about 4' across should look great!

I have the 20 oz and blows the factory light weight "Plum" away and I no longer have to snap it in.
I also made a "Improved" template from my old carpet and have a better fit and finish.

Fast Forward 05-20-2007 11:56 AM

So your telling me the factory is thinner than the 20 oz?? Little surprised to here yours snaps in.

Scott 05-21-2007 09:31 PM

I might be wrong what ever it came with from the factory was thin and had to snap in what I have now is thick (plush) and has enough weight it did not need snaps.

So if there is a 20oz thin then mine would be 40oz or whatever they call the thicker stuff that Fountain and most others come with.

My 97 came with no snap rubber ribbed back 20 oz. (Sounds like a condom discription) Anyhow the new carpet is very plus 40oz. I pick it up on Thursday.

I think I made them add snaps to my old carpet it used to smack me in the back of my leg while underway

Never had a reason to snap in the new stuff

Fast Forward 05-22-2007 01:25 PM

Understood.

I also have purple. Very hot in the sun. Sometimes we put towels down over it. Maybe I have wienie feet! It looks really good though. One other draw back is it shows EVERYTHING.

ckentling 05-22-2007 09:58 PM

I just had new 40oz carpet made for mine in Yellow

Jury is still out on the colorfastness, but a HELL of a lot cooler than Teal

Fast Forward 05-23-2007 05:30 AM

I think we need to see a pic of the yellow. Thats a color I never thought of.

I am pulling it off the lift to head to LOTO for memorial day today or tomorrow I will snap some pics o the new interior and get them posted fro everybody :D

I had the purple plush carpet from Custom Marine Carpets. It was very nice. Did not fade at all, but it was very hot on sunny days. Its doable though... If I had it to do over again, I would probablly get the same grade carpet, but in gray.

Here's a couple pics of the new carpet. It's a pretty dark purple not so blue as the photo's look. Plan to install tonight. Should look great!

Enticer Rick 05-24-2007 03:44 PM

Very Nice! Do you have a phone number to contact them?

x2

Maybe get a 2 fer deal?

I see you're close to me.

dockrocker 05-24-2007 07:20 PM

Might make that 3, if the price is right. I'd prefer to wait till fall, though, since my boat is up for sale and I'm still hopeful (though Jenny is doing her best to make sure no one in Michigan has any money left - beyotch!)

I bought one of Custom Marines weighted gunnel boarding mats and also had a small layin piece of carpet made with the aqua mat backing for my head. There # is 269-684-1922 or on the web at www.snapincarpet.com

Be sure and tell John & Cindy , Brian Newton sent you and your a member of OSO. Great people and fast!!! John was kind enough to get mine done in 3 days, just in time for the weekend. Their all about service!!! He also does some very nice embroidery work if you want to take it a little further.

Scott 05-24-2007 08:42 PM

That would be the same stuff I have!

I would love to do the cabin with the same:cool:

Fast Forward 05-24-2007 08:44 PM

I thought of that as well but that looks like to much work! However you could have a piece made just for the floor and have snaps installed. Beats having to remove all the old stuff glued in.
