What do you guys think of this ?
2 Attachment(s)
I am going to look at this weekend. Any thing in particular I should keep my eyes out for on this model. I understand the quality during this time was pretty good. What can I expect performance wise out of twin 5.7L's. The owner says there is no hour gauge but claims the marina that services it has since new and say no more then 250 hrs. I don’t think there is any way for me to check that other then a good motor inspection. Does any one have experience with this model and twins ?? Seems pretty rare but I don’t know much. Also I can’t tell from the pics but I would guess it has alpha drives, which worries me... (Should I be worried).
The owner says he has only used it on inland lakes like Higgins and such. My intent is St Clair with and occasional drop in Lk MI or Huron. Is this hull pretty good in the rough? Thanks in advance. Vince |
Oh forgot to mention its a 92
|
Maybe I missed it , but what model is it?
Not that I can help with your answer. I have a '91 PQ Conquest 230and that is not a Conquest. I am assuming it is a 27' or 29' |
Sorry again its a 27
|
looks like a 29' Enticer. couldnt get twins in a 270 laser.
|
They did put twin small blocks in Lasers.

I have a 92 208 viate. Single 350 mag/alpha. If you can, pull the bottom plug on the outdrive stopping the oil QUICKLY with your finger. Make sure the magnet isn't loaded with metal shavings. Covers from those years are generally wasted. My 21' cockpit cover cost 700 to replace. Give a little more for your case if it needs one. Stitching on the rear hatch was pulling apart. Vinyl work can get pretty expensive. Other than that mine is built like a brick you know what house. 350 is easy on gas. In my case I average 5-6 mpg. Adjust for twins in your case.

I have a 95 270 Laser with a 454 Mag EFI 385hp. I boat out of Grand Haven and the boat does great on Lake MI. Handles 2-3 pretty well, any thing bigger and you just need to put the tabs down and take it easy. I have always felt very safe in this boat on the lake. Mine does 55 - 56 pretty regularly on flat water. Best is 58 on gps. I haul alot of crap on the boat and usually have at least half tank of gas. Lighter load might give an extra mile or two more speed. If the 5.7 twins give you more speed and you have the benefit of a second engine if one goes down you can always limp back. If the speeds aren't much better a single big block might be more cost effective to run and maintain. I estimate I get about 2 mpg. Good luck in your search.

Gotta be a 29. The 5.7 were pretty rare. I would guess a 60mph boat???

Back in 92 and 93 PQ made 270 Lasers with twin 350s
the called them 270 laser twins |
That baby'sgotta sit low.

They made the laser twin through at least '96. I have the full powerquest line brochure for my boat year and the laser twin is still listed in there with the 5.7's.
I have the 502 in mine and at crusing speed (3400 rpm) its still pretty good on gas. Best speed with GPS is around 64. I have heard that the laser twin is actually a little slower then the 502 just due to the extra weight and drag. As far as handling goes it handles very well in the bigger waves. I just came back from put-in-bay today and the waves were 2-4 feet and I was surprised again as to how well it handles them. There is definately no inland lake that will be able to throw anything at you that you cant handle. Good luck, keep us posted! |
I owned a 93 Lazer with twins, it was a great boat, no problems at all. It would run about 65 mph all day long. I mainly used it on the chain in Illinois, but did take it out on Lake Michigan occasionally. The boat can handle bigger water, but is not the smoothest ride out there. I had the boat for six years, and I still see it on the water today.

92 laser
I have that exact same boat (92 Laser with twin 350 Mags) with what looks to be the same graphics. I bought it knowing it would probably be a little slower than a single (502) but I wanted twins. As the one guy said there ain't an inland lake that this boat won't handle. As for the big lakes, it rides pretty decent 2,3, and even 4 footers aren't too bad if you're not going balls out. The previous owner told me he ran 64 mph consistently but my best is about 61 on GPS. The one nice thing about this boat is the great fuel economy. The boat is small enough that the small blocks aren't working hard at all.
