Innovation marine motors

I have found a 380 I am considering. It has all the options I am looking for, however it is Volvo powered with the Volvo HP500 with the DPX duoprop drives.

I have had Volvo before in bowriders and little boats but know very little about the hi-perf stuff

Anyone have any ideas or thoughts, also the owner claims 70plus, that seems optomistic with the duo props

it is a 2000 year boat so stepped hull, fully loaded, genny, AC, Mcleod etc.

Thoughts, ideas or comments will be appreicated

Thanks

Christian

Call Innovation 941-756-4012 Asked for Dave Stiff. The drives are better than Bravos but the motors hurt resale. Innovation will be the only people to get parts for the engines.

They are good motors/drives, though. If you buy the package make sure you buy it right as resale will suffer.

As a side note, do you know Damon from IL?

That is what I thought, but it as if I will take a loss on the motors, but I hope a 38 with last me a few years :D

I do not know a Damon from Il, at least I do not think so

The guy does paint and glass work. He's worked on the old Bicardi Silver for D. Scott and other boats. He was talking about working on a 290 PQ that sounded just like yours last time I was at his shop.

Wish I could say it was him, we did mine in a barn ourselves, in fact I need to setup time to touch her up from the dock rash she received this year at the shootout.

I am cheap that way :drink:

volvo

I agree with the the others The volvo set up will cost in resale and thats why you may be seeing a deal. However even with that set up you should see over 70, I would guess this boat would make for a nice cruiser style go boat. Should plane at low RPM.
I wouldn't buy unless the price was way way low !!!!!!!

OK< I have anumber in my head, but lets play what if :D

200 hours, innovation hp500, volvo dpx drives, genny (50 hours) heat / ac, hot water, vacuflush, bimini w/ camper, Mccleod interior, gaffrig gauges, decent paint, alum trailer, dockside tele, cable/tv hookups, k-planes, fresh water

So what does everyone think a fari price is for it?

THANKS :drink:

85-95k

Keep in mind price is just one aspect of if you will be happy with this boat. This boat will never be as quick as it should be but will be a nice cruse boat that looks quick. Having said that a price in the 80 to 90 range should give you comfort that you didn'y pay too much for a boat that you will have to find just the right buyer for when it comes time for you to sell.
If I were looking for an Avenger I wouldn't pay over 75 for it, but thats just me.
Youi might think about how much it would takre to put real motors and merc drives in it and adjust the price.

$85k

We did several 600 DPX packages in Scarabs. The motors were great. I had two customers that ran the piss out of their boats for 350 hrs before they sold them. They had no mechanical failures. These engines were originally designed for the Navy. They were tested on a dyno @ WOT for 200 hrs.
A lot of people do not know about them and they are no longer in production so it does hurt resale.
If the motors are in good shape, I would not be scared of owning them.
One problem we did see on two of the boats that were used in salt water was that the Keith Eikert Exhaust got holes in them. Keith no longer builds the exhaust but I think you can get them from Inovation.

Thanks for everyones advice, I greatly appreciate it.

They are asking 100 but I was thinking offering 80 - 85 so it looks like the numbers work

THANKS :D

I also knew of a customer that had them in a 353 Fastech and his boat spent more time in the shop than in the water. It could go either way. Innovation is great but I would have Mercury power if he wants resale and reliability.

In todays economy,,I'd think even 80 to 85 was awful strong, especially with the Volvo setup, look through the OSO classifieds at comparable boats and see how long they have been on the market.
If you have the funds/credit, right now it's a buyers market and I'd think you could find better deals with a little patience.

Just my opinion, not meant to offend anyone.

performancemary 12-13-2007 08:25 PM

I agree

Don't go for this one off boat. There are good boats out there for good prices with good motors that will have good resale.
